As a huge Scorsese fan, I always go back to this movie – it’s the one that really put him on the map, you know? It was only his third film, but it felt like everything clicked. And looking back, it’s amazing to think that within ten years he’d direct masterpieces like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and The King of Comedy! It’s incredible to see how much potential was already there.

Despite not winning any major awards, this crime drama was recognized for its importance to American culture, history, and filmmaking when it was added to the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry in 1997.
Variety magazine named it one of the greatest films ever made, ranking it 47th in 2022. They praised it as a thrilling and unforgettable film, showcasing Martin Scorsese’s enduring talent and calling it a powerfully dynamic experience.
