Jessie Buckley had a fantastic night at the Golden Globes, winning big awards, but even while celebrating, she was thinking about her daughter.
Jessie, age 36, recently became a mother and won the award for Best Actress in a Drama. She and her husband, Freddie Sorensen, generally keep their personal lives private.
The 35-year-old actress, who generally keeps her personal life private, surprised fans in April by revealing she was expecting a baby at a public event. However, she waited to share the news of the birth.
Jessie announced in December, during an appearance on The New York Times’ Modern Love podcast, that she had given birth to a baby girl. She hasn’t shared the baby’s name yet.
On Sunday evening, Jessie was photographed looking delighted while sitting with Chloé Zhao, the director of ‘Hamnet’, just before the film won the award for Best Motion Picture.
Okay, so I was zooming in on every single pixel of that photo, and you will NOT believe this – I think I saw a picture of her baby on her phone! I swear, it was just a quick flash, but it looked like her little one. I’ve been obsessed with finding any hint of the baby, and I think this is it! I’m probably right, I just know it!

I’m guessing whoever was watching my daughter while I had a night out was probably scrolling through all the pictures and updates I’d been sending. It’s just what anyone would do – you can’t help but want to see how she’s doing!
Jessie was accompanied by her husband, Freddie, 47, that evening. She had mentioned earlier that Freddie couldn’t attend the red carpet event due to work commitments.
Jessie explained they preferred he remain anonymous due to his work in mental health.
Jessie shared that playing a mother who is grieving in the play ‘Hamnet’ unexpectedly awakened a very strong maternal instinct within her, especially as she was becoming a mother herself.
The film Hamnet tells the story of William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and his wife, Anne Hathaway (Jessie), and how the death of their 11-year-old son deeply affected their marriage. This tragedy ultimately served as the inspiration for Shakespeare’s famous play, Hamlet.
She shared that getting pregnant shortly after finishing filming felt inevitable, as she’d been experiencing a strong maternal instinct while still in character, but without a real baby to nurture. It was a powerful and somewhat overwhelming feeling.
Jessie went on, explaining that there were times it was incredibly painful. She felt like she was living in a completely different reality, and fully embracing a persona that wasn’t truly her. She paused, then advised, ‘Just be patient…’
‘I think when I was filming Hamnet, I deeply wanted to become a mother myself.

Honestly, experiencing her story – her journey through motherhood, love, and loss – felt like a real gift. It deeply resonated with me, especially as I was preparing to become a mother myself. It was like a beautiful, poignant preview of what life holds, and I’m so grateful I got to witness it.
Taking control of my choices during pregnancy – from deciding what kind of birth I wanted to feeling empowered throughout the whole process – was a really positive experience.
Jessie announced the birth of her daughter and shared the values she hopes to teach her.
Jessie reflected that the most important thing she could share with her daughter – someone who will undoubtedly forge her own path, as she should – is the understanding that we only have one life.
Life will always present challenges that cause us to question ourselves, feel fear, or want to hold back and avoid taking risks.
I look at this new little life, so pure and untouched by expectations, and I hope I can share with her what my mother shared with me: that every part of who you are is perfectly okay, and you don’t need to change.
The world needs everyone to embrace their challenges and learn from difficult times. It’s about truly experiencing hardship, even the painful parts, and letting those experiences shape you. There’s no limit to how much you can handle – it’s all about living life to the fullest.

Jessie also discussed Hamnet and motherhood on The Graham Norton Show.
Jessie described the film ‘Hamnet’ as offering a rare glimpse into the personal life of Shakespeare, showing him as a husband and father. She highlighted its themes of love, grief, and the power of stories, and praised the film’s beautiful production.
When asked if watching the finished product was emotional, she shared that releasing it has been a truly heartwarming experience with many lovely moments.
I first saw the movie eight months into my pregnancy, and it really got to me. It was pretty embarrassing to cry during my own film, but it was also incredibly moving.
Jessie’s pregnancy reveal came a year after she married her partner Freddie/
She’s been keeping her partner’s identity a secret, but it’s now been revealed they got married a year ago. He’s a mental health professional and lives in Islington, North London.
The couple split their time between London and Norfolk where the actress moved to in 2022.

Jessie revealed on her podcast, Table Manners, that she and Lennie Ware got married at their home in Norfolk and kept the wedding a secret for several months last year.
She described a really enjoyable wedding, complete with a Guinness keg. They didn’t have a single honeymoon, but several shorter trips, and they’ve been happily living in East Anglia ever since.
Speaking about her husband, she gushed: ‘He is gorgeous!’
The couple split their time 50/50 between east London and Norfolk, where they have a home together.
Jessie and Freddie were set up on a blind date by a friend named Marc Robinson. Jessie had worked with Marc on her 2018 film, Wild Rose, which launched her career.
They first thought about making a home in Suffolk, where their relationship began, but ultimately decided Norfolk was a better fit.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen how big life moments can follow challenging times, and Jessie’s wedding is a perfect example. It happened seven years after her rather difficult breakup with actor James Norton, whom she dated from 2015 to 2017. It’s lovely to see her so happy now!
She confirmed they had split up, describing it as a difficult and strained breakup. Despite the difficulties, she emphasized that they remain good friends and that he is a wonderful person. She didn’t offer any further details.
