Emotional Teyana Taylor delivers powerful acceptance speech at Golden Globes 2026

Teyana Taylor cried tears of joy while accepting her Golden Globe award on Sunday for her performance in the movie, One Battle After Another.

The 35-year-old actress and singer won an award for her supporting role as Perfidia in the film.

The New York-born actress cried while accepting the awards from Jennifer Garner and Amanda Seyfried, and jokingly mentioned her underwear while on stage at the Beverly Hilton.

‘Wait, see my party in the back,’ she said in reference to the bedazzled undergarment.

Taylor was up for an award alongside Ariana Grande (for her work in Wicked: For Good), Elle Fanning (Sentimental Value), Emily Blunt (The Smashing Machine), Amy Madigan (Weapons), and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value).

Taylor admitted she nearly skipped writing a speech, as she didn’t expect to win. She then thanked director Paul Thomas Anderson, explaining that his work provided the inspiration for her acceptance speech.

She thanked Paul Thomas Anderson, known as ‘Let ‘Em Cook,’ for his creative vision, the trust he placed in her, and his exceptional talent. She expressed that she was deeply grateful.

‘I love you, we love you and thank you so much for holding space for me and our entire cast.’

Taylor shared that her daughters, 10-year-old Iman ‘Junie’ Tayla Shumpert Jr. and 5-year-old Rue Rose Shumpert, were watching the award show from upstairs.

She playfully told her family to put down their phones and pay attention, calling them her ‘grounding force’ – the people who keep her centered.

Taylor concluded her speech with a message for her fellow women of color and young girls watching, offering them encouragement and support.

Taylor emphasized that being kind isn’t a weakness, having strong values isn’t excessive, and everyone deserves to express their unique qualities without needing approval.

‘We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.’

Taylor seemingly had her speech partially blocked by CBS after she exclaimed, “Oh my God, this is really heavy!” when receiving her award.

In the series One Battle After Another, Taylor plays the mother of a child whose father is the character played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

The new film by Anderson boasts a strong cast, including Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, and Wood Harris.

On Sunday, the 83rd Golden Globe Awards celebrated the best in film and television, bringing together top stars at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

Nikki Glaser is returning as host for the second year, and she’s expected to bring her famously unfiltered and bold comedic style to the event, likely keeping the celebrity guests on their toes.

Joel McHale, 41, said hosting the Golden Globes was the most enjoyable experience of his career. In a statement released in March, he expressed his eagerness to host again, jokingly hoping the cast of ‘The White Lotus’ would be in the audience and finally give him a role – specifically, a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a mysterious background – in season four.

One Battle After Another is the frontrunner for awards, receiving a total of nine nominations.

The Leonardo DiCaprio film received several major nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. DiCaprio himself is nominated for Best Actor, while Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn are up for Best Supporting Actor.

The film will be up for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy alongside Blue Moon, Bugonia, Marty Supreme, No Other Choice, and Nouvelle Vague. Many were surprised that Wicked: For Good didn’t receive a nomination.

The Best Picture – Drama category features a competitive lineup, including the films Frankenstein, Hamnet, It Was Just An Accident, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Values, and Sinners.

The popular Netflix series Adolescence continued its award-winning streak, earning nominations for its entire cast. Stars Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty, and Owen Cooper (age 16) were all recognized, and Ashley Walters received a surprising nomination as well.

I was so thrilled to see the show nominated for Best Limited TV Series – it’s amazing to be recognized alongside such strong contenders like ‘All Her Fault,’ ‘The Beast in Me,’ ‘Black Mirror,’ ‘Dying for Sex,’ and ‘The Girlfriend’! That brings the show’s total nominations to five, which is fantastic news!

Despite strong competition from Adolescence, The White Lotus received six nominations, largely due to the exceptional performances of its talented cast.

This year’s awards show celebrates outstanding achievements in film, television, and – for the first time – podcasts, recognizing work across 28 different categories.

This year, each of the award categories has six nominees, except for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, which has eight.

The competition for Best Male Actor in a Drama Series at the upcoming awards is expected to be fierce. Nominees include Sterling K. Brown (Paradise), Diego Luna (Andor), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), Mark Ruffalo (Task), Adam Scott (Severance), and Noah Wyle (The Pitt).

Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty have both been nominated for acting awards. Sixteen-year-old Owen Cooper is up for Best Supporting Actor in a TV series, limited series, or TV movie.

He’ll be competing for the award against several of his fellow actors, including Ashley Walters, Billy Crudup (from The Morning Show), Walton Goggins and Jason Isaac (both from The White Lotus), and Tramell Tillman from Severance.

Erin is nominated for an award alongside Aimee Lou Wood, both recognized for their roles in The White Lotus. They are competing in the category of Best Supporting Actress in a TV series, limited series, or movie.

The category also includes Carrie Coon (The White Lotus), Hannah Einbinder (Hacks), Catherine O’Hara (The Studio), and Parker Posey (The White Lotus).

Paul Mescal, the Irish actor, has been nominated for Best Supporting Male Actor in a Motion Picture. He’s up against Benicio Del Toro, Jacob Elordi, Sean Penn, Adam Sandler, and Stellan Skarsgard, as well as himself for his performance in ‘Hamnet’ and another nomination for Benicio Del Toro in ‘One Battle After Another’.

The Best Screenplay category featured Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another, Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie for Marty Supreme, Ryan Coogler for Sinners, Jafar Panahi for It Was Just an Accident, and Maggie O’Farrell for Hamnet.

Joachim Trier’s Norwegian film, Sentimental Value, received eight nominations, putting it close behind One Battle After Another in the film categories.

Ryan Coogler’s film, Sinners, received seven award nominations, while Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet and Jon M. Chu’s Wicked: For Good each earned five nominations.

I honestly can’t believe Wicked didn’t even get nominated for Best Musical or Comedy! It’s a travesty! But okay, at least Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande got some love with their acting nominations, which is something, I guess. Still, Wicked deserved so much more!

Several expected nominations were missing, including one for Sydney Sweeney for her role in Christy as Best Actress in a drama. Jennifer Lawrence (Die My Love), Tessa Thompson (Hedda), and Julia Roberts (After The Hunt) were all nominated, along with Eva Victor, who received a surprise nod for her performance in the independent film Sorry, Baby.

Irish actress Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), who is seen as the front-runner, completes the category.

Neither Kathryn Bigelow’s Netflix thriller, A House of Dynamite, nor Bradley Cooper’s documentary, Is This Thing On?, received any nominations.

Timothée Chalamet is aiming to finally win a Golden Globe after being nominated four times. He was expected to win last year for his role in A Complete Unknown, but didn’t. He recently won the Best Actor award at the Critics Choice Awards.

He’s nominated for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture this year for his role in Marty Supreme.
