A new trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has sparked a theory about how the Fantastic Four can exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with both advanced technology and a 1960s setting. The MCU is growing rapidly, introducing new versions of classic heroes, and the Fantastic Four’s arrival in 2025 is one of the most anticipated additions.
The film The Fantastic Four: First Steps offers a unique perspective by introducing the team’s origins and keeping them separate from existing MCU characters. However, some fans believe it would be even more compelling if this version of the Fantastic Four had a history with the established heroes of the MCU, perhaps as alternate versions of themselves.
Avengers: Doomsday’s New Teaser Trailer Hints At The Fantastic Four Being Aware Of Their Universe’s Wakanda

The latest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday seems to reveal the first meeting between the Fantastic Four from another universe (Earth-828) and the main Marvel Cinematic Universe (Earth-616). In the scene, Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing, is shown talking with M’Baku, the current king of Wakanda.
It’s strange, but even after somehow ending up in a different universe – one that’s clearly very different and where he might be hiding from or hunting Doctor Doom – Ben doesn’t seem at all surprised by anything. When M’Baku, the king of Wakanda, introduces himself, Ben simply replies that he’s from Yancy Street, acting completely unfazed.
This scene might just be a funny moment in what looks like a generally serious movie. However, considering the Thing’s actions and details from The Fantastic Four: First Steps, some fans believe the Fantastic Four have connections to a Wakanda-like nation in their universe. This could make their interaction with the Avengers: Doomsday characters even more interesting.
This explains why Ben only states his street, not the city, and helps clarify how Earth-828 developed such a technologically advanced New York. It suggests the advancement wasn’t solely due to Reed Richards’ efforts.
The Fantastic Four’s Universe Being A Retro Futuristic World Makes More Sense If Wakanda Was Involved

The Marvel Cinematic Universe consistently demonstrates that Wakanda’s technology has always been far ahead of the rest of the world. This is especially clear in the Eyes of Wakanda series, which highlights how Wakanda developed things like advanced transportation long before other nations.
If Wakanda had revealed itself to the world sooner and perhaps worked with or inspired Reed Richards, it could explain the advanced technology present in the Fantastic Four’s universe. This connection would help establish why that universe evolved so differently from the primary Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The comic book series The Fantastic Four: First Steps suggests the world becoming less focused on military strength explains the changes we’re seeing in this storyline. This new environment likely allowed Wakanda to reveal itself to the world sooner than expected, and they might even be working with or helping the Future Foundation.
Regardless, this theory offers a compelling and believable possibility for how the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s timeline could unfold. It might even play a role in future storylines, particularly in Avengers: Doomsday and beyond, depending on where Marvel decides to take its heroes.
