Mia Hewitt, the oldest daughter of Bec and Lleyton Hewitt, has openly discussed the challenges of growing up with famous parents. She says she intentionally avoided public attention for many years, even though she knew people recognized her last name.
The 20-year-old musician, now the lead singer of the folk band Father’s Favourite, explains that her parents intentionally kept her and her siblings out of the public eye as they were growing up, allowing her to form her own personality away from media attention.
Born in 2005, Mia Hewitt has grown up in the spotlight as the daughter of tennis legend Lleyton Hewitt and actress Bec Hewitt. Along with her older brother Cruz and younger sister Ava, she’s been a public figure since birth.
She started modeling as a child, mostly in photos with her parents. But this is the first time she’s done a professional photoshoot on her own, and she’s thrilled to be on the cover of Stellar magazine this week.
Mia explained that growing up, her family traveled a lot. This brought them closer together, but also meant they were always conscious of being in the public eye.
We were very close for many years, partly because we traveled so much together. That constant connection helped keep us stable. My siblings are my best friends, and we were all a bit more conscious of being in the public eye growing up than most kids.

The Hewitt family spent a period of time living in the Bahamas before moving to Melbourne. Now, their daughter Mia lives in Sydney with her partner.
She revealed that growing up in the public eye was a surreal experience in many ways.
It’s strange because people think they understand who you are, but they really don’t. Especially if you become well-known at a young age, they tend to box you into a single identity, she explained.
It’s tough because people only see a surface-level image, not the real changes and growth you’re going through as a person.
Mia now dedicates herself to music, having released her first EP and regularly performing live with her band, Father’s Favourite, alongside her close friend Chèrise Combrink.
Music… it’s always been everything to me, honestly. It’s like, I’ve always dreamed of being up on stage, creating something beautiful, but for the longest time, I just didn’t believe in myself enough to actually go for it. It’s a deeply personal thing, you know? I always knew, deep down, that’s what I wanted, but confidence was a huge hurdle.
I was homeschooled for a period, and I became quite withdrawn. However, I’ve since connected with some amazing people who share my interests, and that really helped me gain the confidence to pursue my goals.
She now says that performing live is the best part of being in the band. ‘I just love being on stage and playing for an audience,’ she explains. ‘That’s what I enjoy most.’

Her musical tastes are firmly rooted in the ’60s and ’70s, with Stevie Nicks a major influence.
‘Anything early rock ‘n’ roll has my heart,’ she said.
Asked about the ‘nepo baby’ label, Mia took a matter-of-fact stance.
She explained the situation simply, saying there wasn’t much she could do to change it. She acknowledged that her family connections gave her advantages and opportunities, and she openly admitted she benefited from knowing the right people.
However, she still works a regular retail job alongside creative pursuits.
‘My friends call it the Hannah Montana life,’ she quipped. ‘The best of both worlds.’
Mia’s mom, Bec, became well-known for her role as Hayley on a TV show from 1998 to 2005. She left the show when she became pregnant with Mia.
In December 2024, reports surfaced suggesting Mia is pursuing a similar career path to her well-known mother.
Mia was photographed on the set of a long-running Australian TV show in Palm Beach, a location that helped launch Bec to fame 26 years ago.
A Channel Seven representative confirmed to Daily Mail that Mia has been involved with the show for a while now.
According to a recent statement, Mia has worked as a part-time wardrobe assistant for H&A for the past year and a half.
Mia and a friend formed a folk-rock duo named Father’s Favourite. They playfully called themselves ‘The Queens of King Street’ in a recent post on the band’s Instagram.
Let’s clear up a common misconception about Mia! While she might be playing gigs in some of Sydney’s more intimate venues, don’t think she’s struggling! After her performances, she actually heads home to a pretty incredible property – her parents’ $10.3 million estate in Glenhaven. So, she’s definitely building her career, but she’s not exactly the ‘starving artist’ type!
