The show recently concluded after five seasons, and its ending sparked a lot of debate, even leading fans to speculate about a hidden extra episode. However, actor Charlie Heaton describes one of the most criticized parts of the finale as genuinely truthful.
I was chatting with Matthew Heaton about how the show ended, and he shared some interesting thoughts. Even though I, like a lot of fans, really wanted to see those two characters stay together, he said the breakup actually felt real and believable. He thought it was the right decision for their story, and honestly, hearing him say that made it a little easier to accept!
After spending so much time with these characters, you naturally become invested in their happiness. Heaton explained that while he wanted a satisfying conclusion for them, the authenticity of the ending felt even more crucial. He described the scene as beautifully written and genuinely moving, resonating on a deeper level than simply seeing them together.
Heaton shared that his time working on Stranger Things will always be a cherished memory. He specifically remembered the last day of filming being filled with genuine emotion. He explained it was a heartfelt goodbye to a group of people he truly enjoyed working with, making the whole experience incredibly special.
Charlie Heaton has played Jonathan Byers since the beginning of Stranger Things, quickly becoming a popular character with fans. As the older brother of Will Byers (played by Noah Schnapp), Jonathan was immediately caught up in the strange events surrounding the Upside Down when Will disappeared at the start of Season 1, even though he didn’t understand what was happening.
Throughout Stranger Things, Jonathan Byers, played by Charlie Heaton, and Nancy Wheeler have been one of the show’s central couples, though their relationship has faced many challenges. These difficulties reached a peak during the latest season, resulting in a memorable breakup scene that happened while the world around them was literally falling apart. Interestingly, the actors Maya Dyer and Charlie Heaton, who play Nancy and Jonathan, have been dating since the first season of the show.
What Comes After Stranger Things’ Main Story for the Hit Sci-Fi Franchise?
Okay, so Stranger Things is finished, which is sad, but it looks like we’re still getting more from that world! Netflix is planning to release a new animated special later this year, called Stranger Things: Tales from ’85. It’s going to fill in the gap between seasons 2 and 3, and it’s super cool because they have a whole new voice cast! We’ll have Luca Diaz as Mike, Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Elisha Williams as Lucas, Ben Plessala as Will, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, and Brett Gipson as Hopper. I’m really excited to see what they do with it!
One of the creators of Stranger Things shared that they and Ross Duffer have a spin-off idea they’re really enthusiastic about. However, they emphasized it will be quite distinct from the original series. The most important thing, Duffer explained, is that any new project comes from a genuine love for the story, whether that’s from them or another creator.
A new series connected to the show is being developed, featuring a different set of characters than those we’ve met in Hawkins. Following the final episode, fans began speculating online about a hidden episode, jokingly called #ConformityGate. This rumored episode doesn’t exist, despite initial beliefs that it would appear on January 7th. Instead, on January 12th, Stranger Things will release a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Season 5.
Stranger Things is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
