Evangeline Lilly is famous for playing strong, tough characters, like Kate on the TV show Lost and Hope van Dyne, also known as the Wasp, in the Ant-Man films. Recently, she took a break from acting and revealed she had suffered a traumatic brain injury. Now, Lilly is sharing more details with her fans about her recovery.
Evangeline Lilly shared with her fans that she suffered a head injury after fainting on the beach in May 2025, hitting a rock. Recently, she revealed on Instagram that this accident caused brain damage, explaining her brain wasn’t working at its full capacity. She received a lot of support from fans and fellow celebrities, and she recently thanked them for their kind messages and advice. Lilly felt it was important to keep her followers updated about her recovery from the traumatic brain injury, and also stated:
I truly believe that even setbacks like injuries can lead to growth, so I’m staying positive. I’m actually excited to use this time to improve and strengthen my mental abilities.
I understand the actress from Real Steel’s perspective completely. It’s a shame she had to go through such an injury, but she’s looking at the bright side. She sees it as a chance for doctors to finally understand and address the underlying causes of her health problems, and potentially even improve her cognitive abilities. You can see her full explanation in the Instagram video linked below.

Evangeline Lilly shared that her unexplained fainting spells, or blackouts, actually started when she was a child. Doctors first suspected low blood sugar, but tests showed her glucose levels were normal after these episodes. Despite the mystery, Lilly expressed gratitude for the blackouts, explaining that they allowed her to feel refreshed and ‘reset.’
Several Marvel actors have faced health challenges. Jeremy Renner, for instance, suffered severe injuries in 2023 when he was hit by his snowplow, and he’s openly shared his recovery journey. More recently, in 2025, Tom Holland experienced a head injury on the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day due to a stunt gone wrong, but he has reassured fans that he’s now doing fine.
It’s really inspiring to hear Evangeline Lilly staying so positive after her recent health challenges. She actually sees this as a chance to finally get to the bottom of what’s been causing her blackouts and improve her overall health – she calls it an “opportunity” to “upgrade” things! It just shows what a strong person she is, even when she’s not playing a superhero. If you’re a fan of her work as the Wasp, you can definitely re-live those moments by streaming the Ant-Man films on Disney+.
