Tim Allen shared a funny story about meeting Tom Cruise at the premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, mentioning how Cruise’s involvement with Scientology came up during their conversation.
During a performance at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles on Thursday, 72-year-old Woody Allen shared that he frequently shouts comments during movies. He used the premiere of the latest Mission: Impossible film as a recent example.
He explained that dealing with celebrities is strange – he often greets people as if he knows them, even when he doesn’t. He joked that when he’s around them, he wants to act confident and cool, and specifically mentioned wanting a hat from the movie ‘Mission: Impossible,’ as reported by a Daily Mail reporter at the event.
Around half an hour into the movie, he interrupted by yelling ‘bullst’ because he felt a particular scene wasn’t believable.
A BMW 7 Series drove off a parking garage and flipped over, landing on its front end. The speaker described how the driver, an actor known for action roles, emerged from the wreckage looking completely unharmed, demonstrating a composed demeanor despite the crash.
‘It would’ve killed Batman, so I said “bulls**t”!’ he spilled.

He went on to say the ‘whole theater’ went quiet and everyone turned to look at him.
He remembered someone in the audience jokingly calling out, “Hey, you’re Buzz Lightyear!” – a reference to his famous Toy Story character.
He attempted to apologize, saying, “I was just kidding around.” He also observed that Cruise’s ears were very red.
After the film finished, Allen told Cruise that he remembered Cruise yelling during the movie and brought it up to him directly.
Allen went on with his story, saying, ‘He walked down the aisle and looked right at me. I was terrified, even though he was incredibly short – about this tall,’ Allen indicated with a gesture showing roughly 5’7″.
‘My grandpa always said eat crow while it’s fresh, so I apologized. I said, “hi, bye.”
He seemed like a genuinely nice person, but I have a strange feeling he somehow influenced me. He’s a Scientologist, and during our interaction, his eyes turned very red, and I felt a sudden, inexplicable impact – almost like I was struck by something.
Allen concluded his story by sharing that he grew up following religion and still attends church with his family every Sunday, so he considers himself religious. He is married to Jane Hajduk and has two daughters: Elizabeth Allen-Dick, age 16, and Katherine, age 36, from his previous marriage to Laura Deibel.

I’ve followed Tom Cruise’s career for years, and it’s well known he’s been deeply involved with Scientology for a long time. He used to be very vocal about his beliefs and openly supported the Church, and it’s a significant part of his public persona.
He wasn’t the only celebrity who Allen mocked during his hour-long set.
Allen remembered when Tom Hanks got a part he himself wanted – the role of Detective Scott Turner in the 1989 film Turner & Hooch.
Okay, so this is a bit awkward to talk about, but at a recent event, Woody Allen responded to losing an award to Tom Hanks with some…colorful language. Apparently, he jokingly told everyone he’d described himself to Disney executives as a ‘no talent’ individual, and then, well, made a very crude and frankly unnecessary comment about Tom Hanks’ anatomy. It was definitely a surprising and inappropriate moment, and honestly, a bit of a shock to hear from him.
Allen playfully teased Ryan Reynolds, joking about the inconvenience of superhero costumes. He specifically mentioned his dislike of wearing costumes while playing Captain Zoom/Jack in the 2006 film Zoom.
He admitted that whenever he watches Deadpool, he questions whether Ryan Reynolds, age 49, is the one actually inside the suit.
He joked that whenever he sees Deadpool on screen, it’s often not Ryan Reynolds in the suit. Reynolds quipped that he’s usually back in his trailer getting a manicure, implying his stunt double handles some of the more physical scenes.
Tim Allen recently shared that the most challenging costume he ever wore was his Santa Claus suit. He explained that it included a 58-pound fat suit and required six hours of makeup each day. Allen has famously played Santa Claus in several projects, including the films The Santa Clause (1994), The Santa Clause 2 (2002), and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (2006), as well as the 2022 Disney+ series, The Santa Clauses.

Allen recalled that when he first began playing the beloved, cheerful, white-bearded character, he used to smoke cigarettes between takes. Disney staff gently reprimanded him for this, as it wasn’t a good example for the 125 children present on set.
Okay, so get this – Disney actually approached me! It was so weird. They were all, like, ‘Please, could you maybe not swear when you’re dressed as Santa?’ I mean, seriously?! I was telling a story on stage – part of my 2026 tour, by the way – and they had the nerve to ask me that. It was so creepy, honestly.
He explained he hadn’t realized the children on set were actual kids, not professional actors, and that they frequently mistook him for Santa Claus. He found this amusing, considering he’d previously said he disliked children.
Allen’s comedy series, Shifting Gears, came back for its second season on January 7th after a break. The show, which airs on ABC, stars Allen as Matt Parker, a car shop owner who is also a widower.
Tim Allen is back as Buzz Lightyear in the upcoming Toy Story 5, scheduled for release on June 19th. The film also stars the voices of Tom Hanks, Joan Cusack, Greta Lee, Ernie Hudson, Tony Hale, and Conan O’Brien.
