Every new Star Wars movie and TV show coming in 2026

I’m so excited! It feels like forever since we’ve had a new Star Wars adventure, but it’s coming back in a big way! 2026 is going to be incredible for the galaxy far, far away, with a bunch of new stories planned. And the best part? We’re finally getting a new movie! It’s been years since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, and I can’t wait to see what Lucasfilm has been working on. It feels like the franchise is about to explode with new content again!

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve been loving all the shows Disney Plus has given us since 2020 – it’s been great to see them expand the universe with so many new stories. But it feels like a shift is happening. With some of those shows wrapping up and Disney really focusing on big-screen movies again, I’m hoping a few of my favorites get the chance to shine on the big screen. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still excited for future TV shows, but there’s just something special about seeing Star Wars on the cinema screen!

Here’s everything that you can expect from Star Wars this year.

The Mandalorian and Grogu

Release date: May 22, 2026

Fans of The Mandalorian are in for a treat as Din Djarin and Grogu—the dynamic duo—return for a new adventure! After three seasons of excitement on TV, the pair are heading to the big screen for their most ambitious story yet. Joining Pedro Pascal and his adorable co-star, affectionately known as “Baby Yoda,” are Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, and James Coyne. Plus, Dave Filoni will be back as the X-Wing pilot, Trapper Wolf.

It’s a bit of a mystery why Disney and Lucasfilm decided to release The Mandalorian and Grogu in theaters, especially since the show was already doing so well on Disney Plus and could have easily continued for a fourth season. However, it probably comes down to a desire to bring Star Wars back to the big screen. Plus, because the series is costly to make, a successful theatrical release would allow everyone involved to recoup their investment faster than relying on long-term streaming numbers. If the movie does exceptionally well, it could even open the door for other stories from The Mandalorian universe to be shown in theaters as well.

Maul: Shadow Lord

Release window: 2026

Darth Maul, one of the most dangerous villains in the Star Wars universe, is returning in a new animated series on Disney Plus called Maul: Shadow Lord. This time, the story will focus entirely on him as he tries to gain control of different criminal groups in the Star Wars galaxy. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?

Sam Witwer is back to voice the character, just like he did in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. This new series will essentially continue the stories from those shows. That’s a big reason to tune in, but it’s also exciting because we’ll finally see one of the most overlooked characters from the Star Wars universe take center stage as the main character.

Ahsoka season 2

Release window: 2026

Rosario Dawson is back as the popular Jedi, Ahsoka Tano, in the new season of the Mandalorian spin-off series. It’s been nearly three years since Ahsoka first appeared on Disney Plus, and fans are eager to see what happens next. While the Star Wars universe has evolved with new movies planned, there’s still a lot of anticipation for the second season of Ahsoka.

Okay, there was a bit of a scare – Disney briefly left this show off their 2026 preview list, which had everyone worried. But thankfully, Disney Plus just added it to their “Coming in 2026” section, so I’m officially reassured – we’re still on track for a release this year! It’s a relief to have that confirmed.

Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi

Release window: 2026

One of the most anticipated upcoming releases, Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi, is a short series spun off from the popular animated show Star Wars: Visions. It explores a storyline introduced in two episodes of the original series. Announced last year at Star Wars Celebration in Japan, news about the series has been scarce, which has actually helped build excitement among fans.

Building on the exciting episodes “The Ninth Jedi” from seasons one and three, this new story will further develop the characters of Kara and Juro, adding layers to their journey and providing a more detailed backstory than the original standalone episodes allowed. Considering how captivating those episodes were, we’re eager to revisit this unique Star Wars universe.
