ITV’s new crime drama, Winter, is moving forward with production. The show, which was announced last year, stars Richard Armitage as Dr. Ethan Winter, a unique forensic pathologist.
He’s famous for being incredibly intelligent, thinking quickly, and using unconventional methods to help the police crack difficult murder cases.
DI Lauren Bell, played by Annabel Scholey, is a determined and practical detective who frequently collaborates with Winter to crack cases.

The pair are a powerful duo, with Winter’s exceptional understanding of victims proving crucial to Bell and her team of detectives. Each episode will present a unique and gripping crime, alongside a continuing personal storyline for Winter that unfolds throughout the series.
The actors recently completed their first read-through of the script. Filming for the show, which is set in Bristol, will begin next month, both in the city and in Belgium.

The new drama Winter is inspired by the French series Balthazar. David Allison, known for The Couple Next Door, and Mark Greig, from Ashes to Ashes, have adapted it for television.
Scholey previously expressed excitement about joining ITV and Eagle Eye Drama for the Winter series, and collaborating with Richard Armitage on what she described as fantastic scripts.
The complex and passionate connection between these characters will be incredibly exciting to unravel, and I’m really looking forward to playing the witty and sarcastic DI Lauren Bell.

Armitage praised the creators of Winter, calling them the best in the business. He also highlighted the ambitious nature of David Allison’s writing, predicting it will bring a fresh and exciting take to a familiar genre.
I’m really excited to be back on ITV! I’m playing Ethan Winter, and honestly, he’s a fascinating guy. He’s a pro at his job, but also kind of a wild card – always walking a fine line. He’s carrying a lot of baggage and feels like he’s almost waiting for things to fall apart, which makes him super interesting to play.
Winter will air on ITV.
