The following article contains spoilers for The Pitt Season 2.
The second season of the popular medical drama The Pitt launched on HBO Max last night. Returning stars like Noah Wyle as Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans, and Patrick Ball as Frank Langdon – along with Mohan, McKay, Mel, and Santos – all appear in the new season. The cast recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the premiere episode.
The second season begins with the episode “7:00 A.M.” as the night shift wraps up and Dr. Robby starts his final day before taking a break. It’s July 4th, and the emergency room is, as always, incredibly busy. Robby arrives on his motorcycle, and head nurse Dana Evans comes in hoping for a calm day. The familiar faces are all present, but they’ve gained experience and wisdom from their time working there.
The episode also marks the return of Dr. Frank Langdon, a senior resident who recently completed rehab for substance abuse. Actor Noah Wyle told EW about Robby’s shocked reaction when he sees the doctor he fired is back on shift: “Robby was really hoping to avoid him and sneak out before they had to face each other.”
Ball describes a noticeable change in Langdon’s behavior when he comes back. In this episode, he actually apologizes to the patient he previously stole medication from.
It’s difficult to accept when you’ve hurt others. He likely worries about people’s anger more than he needs to; many probably aren’t as upset with him as he fears.
The second season of The Pitt starts with Robby struggling with the thought of someone taking over while he’s away. Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, portrayed by Sepideh Moafi, will be filling in during his several-month leave, but the episode quickly shows Robby is uneasy with her approach. According to Wilson Wyle, Robby wouldn’t easily accept anyone stepping into his position.
Last night’s episode added a surprising new storyline: a baby was left at the emergency room, and the doctors and nurses must now care for the newborn. As they run tests to check the baby’s health, Dr. Al-Hashimi has a peculiar and unsettling reaction. Actress Moafi hinted that this reaction is connected to a major plot point later in the season, saying she was completely shocked by the end of the episode. She explained that Al-Hashimi’s response to the abandoned baby will become clear as the season progresses.
