One Big Preference Jennifer Lawrence Has When Filming Sex Scenes (And Why It Would Have Been ‘Weirder’ If The Hunger Games Was More Sexual)

Jennifer Lawrence has become known for her relaxed attitude towards nude scenes in films. She’s down-to-earth – reportedly eating grilled cheese between takes on No Hard Feelings – and even filmed intimate scenes while recovering after giving birth to her second child on the first day of shooting Die, My Love with Robert Pattinson. Lawrence has openly stated she’s comfortable with nudity and maintains a positive body image, even as her body has changed. That’s why it was surprising to learn she does have one specific request when it comes to filming sex scenes.

During a recent interview with 92NY, the actress shared why filming intimate scenes with Pattinson wasn’t as difficult as some might expect, even though they shot those scenes early in the production process. She explained to People that it was actually easier to film them before they had really gotten to know each other on set.

It was actually simpler because Rob and I were strangers, and that made things surprisingly better.

She said working with Rob reminded her of getting close to her co-stars before their characters had romantic scenes in The Hunger Games, especially considering Peeta and Katniss eventually had children. She strongly prefers not being too familiar with an actor before filming intimate scenes.

It was similar to the situation in The Hunger Games, where I would have had to kiss Josh Hutcherson. Just thinking about it is strange! Honestly, it would have been easier to do a kissing scene with someone I didn’t know.

The romantic aspects of The Hunger Games remained fairly tame. With so much focus on life-or-death situations and intense drama, there wasn’t much room for anything beyond a few kisses. Both the books and movies quickly moved forward to a future scene with Peeta and Katniss raising their children. Director Francis Lawrence explained that the story centered on themes of “comfort and trauma,” and didn’t need intimate scenes to convey its message.

Lawrence viewed Hutcherson as just a friend, which would have made any romantic scenes awkward. Despite this, it didn’t stop people from speculating about a secret relationship between them.

Jennifer Lawrence recently shared some amusing details about filming her new movie, Die, My Love. She explained that some of the most awkward moments happened when director Lynne Ramsey asked her and her Twilight co-star to act like tigers – a process Lawrence jokingly compared to improvisational dance.

This movie sounds really interesting! Critics are buzzing about Die, My Love, and I’m definitely planning to watch it now that it’s available on Mubi, through video on demand, and in limited theaters.
