Margaret Cho reveals horrific side effect from weight-loss drug

Margaret Cho dealt with eating disorders for years, and when a new weight-loss drug became popular around the year 2000, she decided to give it a try.

The 57-year-old comedian shared on the ‘How To Fail With Elizabeth Day’ podcast this Tuesday that they had begun using various drugs.

Some foods caused rapid digestion, and all the sweeteners led to constant diarrhea. I began a diet consisting only of those foods, combined with medication designed to block fat absorption.

Cho noted the pill was ‘orange,’ which points to the drug being Orlistat.

The Emmy-nominated actress remembered a time when she was performing really well while wearing all white.

I was feeling good and nearly finished when I unexpectedly began to have a bowel movement. I couldn’t stop it – it was mostly oil and grease, essentially just fat.

Cho described a shocking on-stage incident where he began experiencing a bodily malfunction, causing him to unexpectedly expel fluids during his performance. Despite the embarrassing situation, the audience responded with a standing ovation and requested an encore, which he was unable to fulfill, retreating behind the curtains.

The comedian, who has a lot of tattoos, rushed to the parking lot and quickly crouched down to use the restroom before driving away.

Cho explained that after driving, she discovered a large, stubborn orange oil stain on her car seat. Unable to remove it, she ended up having to buy a new vehicle.

Completely turned off by the experience, the Grammy-nominated artist stopped using the drug right away.

Margaret Cho experienced kidney failure due to an eating disorder, as she strived to achieve a body type similar to the actresses on the show Friends. This occurred while she was starring in All-American Girl, a groundbreaking sitcom on ABC that made her the first Asian American to lead a network comedy series. Unfortunately, the show only lasted for one season, from 1994 to 1995.

The advocate, who identifies as pansexual and supports the LGBTQIA+ community, jokingly said the show was cancelled and replaced with Drew Carey, implying it was because of his slim physique.

It was a deeply damaging experience, and even after more than 30 years, I still feel the effects. Starving yourself can seriously harm your body, and that’s what I went through with anorexia. I didn’t realize how much damage it could cause at the time.

In the 1990s, Cho used the drug fen-phen, and later remarked, ‘It’s now banned due to its dangerous side effects, but I really liked it when I was taking it.’

Comedian April MacIntyre, who recently appeared on Will Trent, will be performing her Choligarchy Tour at the Louisville Comedy Club in Louisville, Kentucky on January 15th.

Cho has two films premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT this month.

The singer known for ‘Lucky Gift’ will appear in Gregg Araki’s new erotic thriller, ‘I Want Your Sex,’ which comes out January 23rd. She also plays the role of Principal Linda in the teen drama ‘Run Amok,’ premiering January 26th.
