As a lifestyle expert, I’m always fascinated by what makes relationships work. Recently, George Clooney shared something truly insightful about his 11-year marriage to Amal. He revealed they’ve actually never had a big argument! It sounds unbelievable, but he explained it comes down to both of them agreeing that life is too short for those kinds of battles. They prioritize kindness and understanding, and honestly, that’s a beautiful lesson for all of us. It’s a reminder that choosing your battles and focusing on the positive can really make a difference.
George Clooney, who married Amal in 2014, recently spoke openly about relationships in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, responding to skepticism about a particular claim.
After the interviewer expressed disbelief, noting they’d been married for almost 30 years, Clooney explained that the main difference was age.
‘Well, how old were you when you got married?’ the Ocean’s Eleven star asked.
When the interviewer replied, ‘I was 32,’ Clooney didn’t miss a beat.
I’ve noticed a real shift as I’ve gotten older, and it makes total sense. He pointed out that there’s a big reason why insurance is so expensive when you’re a young driver – those first few years behind the wheel are statistically the riskiest, and that’s reflected in the rates. He’s right, of course; being 52 feels a lot different than being 16 or 25!

He explained it was a passionate connection. He never planned to remarry, but then he met someone he fell deeply in love with, and that changed everything. They now have children together, something he hadn’t previously wanted, but meeting this person completely altered his life.
When asked about how to have a successful marriage, George Clooney said it’s about having the right outlook, not expecting everything to be perfect, that really makes a difference.
I’ve changed a lot and feel more settled now. I don’t feel the need to be right all the time, which is something I used to care a lot about when I was younger. Back then, I always wanted to win every debate.
When the interviewer suggested he’s now more willing to concede, Clooney laughed it off.
‘I’m not conceding. But nice try. You’re going to get me in trouble with my wife.’
He recounted a specific instance that proved he always makes an effort to hear Amal’s perspective, even when she disagreed with his love of motorcycles.
Following a frightening accident, Clooney described being thrown from his vehicle. He explained he was traveling around 75 miles per hour when he flipped over, hitting another vehicle’s windshield with his head before being tossed through the air. Footage of the crash is available online.
He explained that he fell heavily, landing on his hands and knees. He compared it to the incredibly low chance of a pencil landing on its tip – a very rare occurrence. He felt he’d used up all his luck in that single fall.
So when Amal told him, ‘I think we’re done,’ Clooney didn’t fight her.
He agreed, saying, “Alright, that makes sense.” He then confessed he still thought about it every single day, adding that it felt similar to when he’d tried to help Amal stop smoking.
My wife used to smoke, and I encouraged her to quit. She still thinks about it every day, I’m sure, but I’m so happy she made that change,” he said.
You know, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about who I am and what matters. I really have to thank my dad for that – he always kept me down to earth and helped me stay real, and I’m so grateful for that influence now.
I’m always striving to understand who I am and live up to my father’s expectations, but I consistently fall short. I can almost hear him telling me not to return until I’ve achieved what he expects.

Just last month, the actor shared similar thoughts on the New Heights podcast. Host Travis Kelce had asked if Clooney was being truthful about never being in a fight.
‘You claim you and your wife haven’t gotten in a fight in 10 years.. are you lying?’ Kelce asked.
Clooney shot back: ‘No I’m not lying! Should we ask you the same question?’
Travis Kelce, who is engaged to Taylor Swift, also claimed he hadn’t been in any arguments, which led George Clooney to explain his own views on the matter.
‘Honestly, obviously neither of us are going to win the argument, so why get in it?’ he mused.
Jason Kelce described it as wisdom, and George Clooney put it simply: ‘I’m 64, I’m not going to waste time arguing anymore.’
So, Clooney finished by saying he’d met an amazing woman – beautiful, intelligent, and someone who shares his values. He feels incredibly fortunate and realized he no longer wants to waste time arguing.
