David Tennant and his wife, Georgia Moffett, have started the new year with a name change, marking their 14th wedding anniversary. They’ve officially updated their surnames.
The Doctor Who star’s real last name is McDonald, but the actor has taken steps to change that.
The couple formally adopted his stage name on New Year’s Day, almost 14 years since they married.
David, age 54, and Georgia, age 41, both updated their last names on company records for their business, Sandyboy Ltd. Georgia also changed her title from Ms. to Mrs.
The couple, who share five children, first met while working on Doctor Who. Georgia played the role of Jenny, the Time Lord’s daughter, and her father, Peter Davison, was actually playing the Fifth Doctor at the time.

David explained he changed his name early in his career because another actor already used the last name McDonald.
He told BBC’s The One Show: ‘I had to change my name as you do when you join the actor’s union.
Growing up, there was someone else with the same name as me – David McDonald. When I was sixteen, I had to change my name and I wondered how someone even does that at that age.
The Harry Potter actor went on to say his new name was inspired by the Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant.
I was flipping through a magazine called Smash Hits when I saw the name Neil Tennant, from the Pet Shop Boys. I liked it – it felt like a strong, classic name – so I decided to name myself after him.
Georgia, known for her roles in Doctor Who and Merlin, first met her future husband in 2008 while filming Doctor Who – she played the Doctor’s daughter, Jenny. They got married on New Year’s Eve in 2011.
Last month, Georgia shared photos on social media celebrating her wedding anniversary. She posted a picture of their wedding rings, along with two sweet photos of her and her partner embracing.
Four snapshots of a love story: a glimpse of new wedding rings from 14 years ago, a recent Instagram photo, a candid real-life picture, and a celebration of 14 years of romance.

Georgia and David have five children together: Olive, 14, Wilfred, 12, Doris, 10, and Birdie, 5. They also raise Georgia’s 23-year-old son, Ty, whom David adopted.
I’m so thrilled for Olive! She just booked a fantastic part in the second season of Rivals, that drama series on Disney+. She’ll be acting alongside David, which is amazing – I can’t wait to see her shine!
The teenage actress will portray Camilla Baddingham, who is the daughter of Lord Tony Baddingham, the character played by David.
Olive has started filming with her father and Amelie Child-Villiers, the actress playing her sister Beatrice Baddingham in the movie.
This season will be the first time viewers see David and his daughter acting together.
A Disney+ representative confirmed that Olive Tennant and Amelie Child-Villiers will both appear in the new season of Rivals.
‘They will be portraying Tony and Monica Baddingham’s daughters, Beatrice and Camilla.’
Olive isn’t new to acting, having already been in the critically acclaimed film Belfast, which received an Oscar nomination, and the BBC series Avoidance.
