Stephen Merchant has given a rare insight into his romance with his girlfriend Mircea Monroe.

The 51-year-old comedian has been with Mircea, 43, since 2018, but they generally keep their relationship private and aren’t often photographed together in public.

As a lifestyle expert, I often see couples navigating long distance, and Mircea and Stephen are a great example. Because Mircea is American, and Stephen splits his time between London and Los Angeles, they’re able to make quality time together a priority. It’s all about finding a balance that works for both of them!

In a recent interview, he shared details about their life together, revealing that Mircea doesn’t cook and they generally prefer to keep to themselves.

He said of their relationship: ‘Mircea and I have been together almost ten years now. 

‘No cats, no dogs, no kids, no other relatives. Just us.’

He told The Times that when he first met Mircea, she confessed she didn’t enjoy cooking. He said after ten years, she hasn’t changed, so he always takes care of dinner.

My husband and I aren’t really the ‘going out’ type, honestly. One of the things I’ve loved about being able to build a successful career is creating a cozy home environment – we actually built a little cinema room! We recently had a major binge-watching session and finally finished Game of Thrones. And you know what? I was completely obsessed with the dragons afterwards! They just captured my imagination.

I remember hearing about Stephen and Mircea – they actually first connected at an awards show nearly ten years ago! Stephen’s been pretty open about his dating life over the years, and he once mentioned that being tall sometimes made it a bit tricky to find someone.

He told Alan Carr: ‘If they’re down there and I’m up here, it’s a bit tricky.’

By 2019, Stephen confessed he was relieved to no longer feel a sense of emptiness, now that he’d met someone from St. Louis.

He admitted that, beyond her wonderful qualities, it’s nice not having to worry about finding someone to share your life with anymore.

‘That’s a very lonely life, the life of a single person’.

Stephen has surpassed the financial success of renowned comedians like Ricky Gervais and Peter Kay, according to The Sun.

He’s now worth a remarkable £26.6 million, largely due to his recent role in the BBC comedy-drama, The Outlaws.

Ricky sits on a staggering £24.4million, while Peter has a hefty £22.6million to his name. 

Records from last year show that Stephen owns several TV production companies. His main company, SJJM Ltd, has assets worth over £25 million.

Although many people crave recognition, Stephen recently confessed he’d rather give up his fame and return to being anonymous.

What always struck me about the beginning of The Office was how wonderfully free it felt. Nobody really knew who any of us were back then, so there was absolutely no pressure or preconceived notions about what the show should be. It allowed us to just create something genuinely funny and original, without worrying about living up to anyone’s expectations.

‘You’re not thinking about the papers or about the audience. 

‘You’re just thinking, ‘This is fun, let’s get it made’. It’s hard to get back to that moment.’

‘I think the size of his bank balance will rather soften the blow.’

Mircea has appeared in several TV series, playing characters like Morning Randolph in Episodes, Tansy Truitt in Hart of Dixie, Alexa Cummings in Impastor, and Stacey Needles in Sing It!

She’s also been in films like Cellular, House of the Dead 2, Just Friends, The Change-Up, and Magic Mike.
