Story Highlights
- Ubisoft shuts down its Halifax mobile games studio shortly after workers unionize.
- Up to 71 developers affected from job cuts as union vows legal action.
- Ubisoft claims this has nothing to do with the union and is part of “strategic reshaping”.
Fans hoping for updates on games like Rainbow Six Mobile or Assassin’s Creed Jade might be disappointed by recent news. Ubisoft has closed its Halifax studio, and unfortunately, 71 people have lost their jobs as a result.
The move comes after Ubisoft revealed steps to reshape the group
This announcement follows recent strategic shifts at Ubisoft. Essentially, the company is working to reduce expenses, reorganize its operations, and prioritize creating higher-quality games more efficiently.

The timing of this issue is particularly delicate. Only a few days before, on December 18, 2025, 61 employees had voted to join the Game and Media Workers Guild of Canada.
It’s against the law in Canada for a company to shut down simply because its employees decide to form a union. Ubisoft says its recent closure was planned before the union effort began, but the union doesn’t believe this and has stated it will explore all available legal options.
What does this mean for the two upcoming mobile titles
People are worried about the upcoming mobile games because the studio developing them also worked on Rainbow Six Mobile and Assassin’s Creed Mobile, which haven’t been well-received. This studio is also likely responsible for games like Assassin’s Creed Rebellion and the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Jade.
The timing of this news is unfortunate, particularly because the tactical shooter is now scheduled to release worldwide on February 23, 2026. This comes after a significant delay – nearly four years since it was first revealed in April 2022. Now that the release date is firm, it seems unlikely they’ll change it.

Unfortunately, Assassin’s Creed Jade hasn’t seen much progress recently. The last significant update in March 2024 announced a delay, stating a change in development priorities. Since then, Ubisoft hasn’t shared many details about the game.
Ubisoft hasn’t officially delayed or cancelled either game, but when studios close, it often impacts release dates or how long a game is supported. While Rainbow Six Mobile appears to be on track, the future of Jade is looking less certain. Ubisoft Halifax’s closure, combined with the lack of new gameplay footage or a confirmed release timeframe, is causing concern.
