The Traitors’ Ross breaks his silence on secret relationship with girlfriend Ellie as he recalls awkward moment when old friend Netty jumped into his arms in front of her

I still remember when Ross first met Netty at the beginning of The Traitors – it was hilarious! He was so stressed because his girlfriend, Ellie, had absolutely no clue who Netty was, and he was desperately trying to cover for it. It was a funny moment, looking back!

Ross and Ellie, who had been secretly dating, publicly confirmed they are a couple after Ross was eliminated from the castle on Wednesday night.

After appearing on the BBC show, he was a guest on Unclocked, where he shared that he became anxious when Netty spotted him and ran to hug him, all while his girlfriend, who is a psychologist, was watching.

Okay, so Ross just revealed something really cute in his first interview! Apparently, he’d literally just seen Netty – like, twenty seconds before – and immediately thought, ‘This person is on my side!’ He was trying to hide how much he liked Ellie, but he basically admitted he felt an instant connection with Netty and saw them as someone who understood what he was going through. It’s so sweet!

‘It’s suppose to be 22 strangers but it’s, 20 plus Ross and Netty… and Ellie. 

Then Netty suddenly ran over and shouted, ‘Ross!’ I was shocked and just stood there, realizing this wasn’t good. She leaped into my arms.

The issue was everyone thought it looked bad, but I didn’t care what they thought. I was more upset that a stranger – someone my partner didn’t even know – had suddenly gotten close to me.

‘Like you guys have got the wrong priorites. And that’s what my inital fear was.’

He added: ‘It was genuinely innosent but it looked terrible’.

The personal trainer shared about the couple’s relationship, saying it was surprisingly easy to keep their romance with Ellie a secret.

Whenever we interacted, seeing Ellie always brightened my day. I was constantly stressed throughout the game, and she felt like a safe haven for me.

I used to believe she was disloyal, because she consistently refused to talk to me whenever we were alone together.

I’m really proud of her and happy she’s continuing to take care of things at home. As Ellie’s biggest supporter, I’m hoping she wins!

‘I just also hope she does something to redeem me – I don’t want my death to be in vain.’

Viewers started to wonder if the two characters knew each other as soon as they got on the train in the Scottish Highlands during the first episode, which aired last Wednesday.

Viewers thought the two Londoners, who were sitting across from each other, seemed to know each other already, despite claiming it was their first meeting.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always fascinated by how connections form! It turns out Ellie and Ross actually did know each other before filming began. A photo from a work trip back in June 2024 recently came to light, proving they had met previously. It just goes to show, sometimes the most unexpected pairings have a history!

Since finishing filming in May, both of them have shared vacation photos from the same spot in Tenerife.

After Ross was eliminated, Ellie revealed in a private interview that she believed the Traitors were responsible, having successfully framed him.

‘I’m really sad to see him go… especially because Ross is actually my boyfriend.’

Ross received six votes at the Round Table meeting, but not without some initial scrutiny. It came to light that he had an old friend, Netty, present, which raised eyebrows at first.

He reflected on his experience, saying it was a mix of good and bad feelings. He wondered if he should have stayed involved for a longer time but remained less visible, or if he should go all-in and make a big impact, even if it meant a shorter run. He felt he had chosen the latter and didn’t regret it.

‘I’m really happy with myself; I don’t think I could have done any better.’

Honestly, the connection was pretty weak, and we really didn’t want to disqualify them simply because of that one link. It felt unfair to hold that against them, so we decided to focus on their actual qualifications and personalities instead.

According to Mike Cotton, Creative Director at Studio Lambert, the players weren’t given any prior warning about the opening scene. The producers wanted to capture their genuine, first-time reactions on camera and observe how they would respond during the game.
