The newest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday gave fans their first glimpse of some familiar villains from the X-Men universe. This third of four teasers released online showcases classic characters previously featured in Fox’s X-Men films, who will appear in the upcoming movie. While the trailer mainly highlighted the heroes and their roles in the massive MCU film, it also included a hidden hint about a major villain that has excited fans.
At the very end of the Avengers: Doomsday trailer featuring the X-Men, viewers can see James Marsden’s Cyclops firing his signature optic blasts. In the background, the massive feet of a Sentinel – a robot designed to hunt mutants – are stomping around. This marks the first time fans have seen these popular X-Men villains connected to the movie.

We don’t see much of the robots themselves, but the footage clearly shows parts of the Sentinels – specifically, their large, iconic metallic boots, which are well-known from the comic books.
For a long time, there have been rumors about the Sentinels appearing in the new movie. Reports from the beginning of production suggested that Doctor Doom would gain control of these mutant-hunting robots during a fight at the X Mansion, causing significant damage to the iconic location.

Currently, the Sentinels and Magneto (played by Ian McKellen) are the only confirmed villains for the movie. However, more villains could be revealed as production continues.
In X-Men: Days of Future Past, the Sentinels were first introduced as robots built in the 1970s with the purpose of destroying mutants.

Okay, Marvel fans, get ready! The Avengers are back in Avengers: Doomsday, hitting theaters December 18th. And it’s a big one – directed by the Russo brothers, who brought us Infinity War and Endgame, this time our heroes have to jump through the Multiverse to stop a seriously powerful Doctor Doom – played by Robert Downey Jr., no less! He’s not just aiming to rule his world, but every world in the MCU. It’s a Multiversal threat, and the stakes are incredibly high. I have a feeling this one’s going to be epic.
How Will The Sentinels Factor Into Avengers: Doomsday?
So far, Doctor Doom has been the main villain in Avengers: Doomsday. But now, the Sentinels – dangerous robots built to destroy mutants – seem like they’re going to join the fight as villains too.
Early glimpses from the set of the upcoming Doomsday film showed a yard covered in craters, resembling the grounds of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. Now, after watching the Doomsday X-Men trailer, it appears this damaged landscape is where the film’s climactic battle takes place.
Initial reports indicated the upcoming battle would be between the X-Men and the Avengers from Earth-616, and that’s still a possibility. However, the towering Sentinels might also participate, possibly under the control of the brilliant and magically-powered Doctor Doom.
Okay, so here’s my take: Doctor Doom seems to be playing a seriously long game. I think he’s deliberately stirring up trouble, setting all these heroes against each other. Then, conveniently, he’ll swoop in, using his control over the Sentinels to look like the guy who saved everyone from a threat he orchestrated. It’s a brilliant, if terrifying, strategy – lull these powerful beings into thinking he’s an ally, and then, when they least expect it, he’ll strike and conquer everything. It’s classic Doom, really – master manipulator and ultimate power grabber.
