John Whaite has revealed he was run over in a near-fatal accident on Tuesday night.  

The Great British Bake Off contestant, age 36, shared a frightening story on Instagram about how he tumbled onto the hood of a car, fell onto the road, and then managed to crawl to safety.

John was taken to the hospital by ambulance, and doctors explained that his weight and strong build—at 16 stone—helped him survive.

John shared a harrowing experience in a recent post, explaining that he was hit by a car last night. He described rolling over the hood of the vehicle, causing damage, before falling onto the road. Luckily, a kind stranger rushed to help, offering a coat and staying with him until paramedics arrived.

‘The doctors said “thank god you’re 16 stone of muscle because it could have been fatal”. 

Let me tell you, from a lifestyle perspective, there are two key takeaways here. First, seriously invest in building your strength – a strong body, especially your core, can literally save you. And second, a little common sense goes a long way! If you’re walking near traffic at night, avoid dark clothing. It seems obvious, but trust me, being visible is crucial, especially when dealing with careless drivers.

‘I’ve been scanned and poked and prodded and I’m ok,’ he wrote. ‘Still gay though.’ 

Just to be clear, when I mentioned “speeding” in my previous post, I didn’t mean it in a literal sense – I was using the term figuratively.

Honestly, it all happened so fast, it was completely out of nowhere! I have no idea how fast he was going, but it was enough to send me flying – I remember being launched up onto his windshield and then just… tumbling down onto the floor. It was terrifying!

John, a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, shared in November that he’s been struggling with an addiction to steroids.

He started using steroids during the lockdown because he was unhappy with his appearance. He now feels he’s been mistreating his body ever since.

The TV star, who was a contestant on the BBC dance competition in 2021, revealed the medication’s side effects have been extremely difficult, causing shrunken testicles and a decreased libido.

I was really moved by John’s honesty. He shared that he’s been battling steroid addiction for the last five years, and it broke my heart to hear him describe how much he’s struggled. He admitted he lost sight of what truly mattered – his health, his mental wellbeing, and most importantly, time with his family – all in pursuit of a certain body image. It’s incredibly brave of him to open up about this.

‘Steroids have made me want to end my life. That stops today. Right now.’

John firmly stated, ‘No more. From this moment on, I’m choosing to live fully, prioritize my well-being, embrace love, and live a less complicated life.’

The winner of a past season of The Great British Bake Off became emotional and cried while discussing the harmful consequences of using steroids.

He explained that he began using them during the lockdown period because he was unhappy with his appearance.

I really made an effort to get in shape, both by exercising and following a very strict diet, but I just couldn’t build any muscle.

‘Looking back, there was nothing wrong with me – I had a normal body.’

Besides being on TV, John has been earning a lot of money through the adult content platform OnlyFans, and he’s previously shared details about his income.

John, known for winning Bake Off in 2012, recently returned to the internet after explaining that his twelve years in television hadn’t been fulfilling.
