Fran Drescher is opening up about surviving cancer after being diagnosed at age 42.
The 68-year-old actress recently gave a detailed interview to People magazine, where she discussed her health struggles, her divorce, and what’s next for her career.
The star revealed she was diagnosed with uterine cancer, which is more common in women after menopause or who have obesity.
She remembers being diagnosed at age 42, meaning it likely began around 40, or even earlier. Because she wasn’t post-menopausal or obese, her symptoms didn’t fit the typical profile, and she fell through the gaps in healthcare awareness.
But The Nanny vet said she considers herself ‘lucky’ to have received the diagnosis when she did.
She explained that her ectopic pregnancy was discovered at an early stage – it was located near the uterine lining, but hadn’t grown into it yet. Because of this, she considered herself very fortunate.

I was dating someone sixteen years younger than me, and for the first time, I really wanted to have a child with him. Sadly, that just wasn’t meant to be, and it was heartbreaking, the star explained.
Rather than having the option to preserve her fertility with egg freezing, she needed to begin cancer treatment immediately.
In 2020, Drescher revealed that her cancer diagnosis was connected to a traumatic experience from 1985: a rape committed at gunpoint.
Her then-husband, Peter Jacobson, was also attacked and tied up, and was forced to watch the assault.
Following the traumatizing event, she threw herself into work and caregiving.
She told CNN’s Ana Cabrera six years ago that it felt both odd and strangely beautiful that cancer had affected her reproductive system.
She pointed out that pain has a way of surfacing physically when emotional or internal issues aren’t addressed.
Looking back, I realize I wasn’t taking care of myself emotionally, and that pain from the trauma I experienced actually manifested physically. It settled deep within me, and it was incredibly shocking because no one else in my life was dealing with something similar – it really forced me to wake up and face what was happening.
She advised women not to dismiss their own needs or overwork themselves to the point of exhaustion while trying to please everyone else. Ignoring problems won’t make them disappear, and prioritizing others at the expense of your own health isn’t worth it.
‘That is a pitfall women often experience. I’m here to say, “Stop that!”‘

In a recent interview with People, Fran Drescher talked about her part in the hit movie, Marty Supreme, which was released on Christmas.
Timothée Chalamet leads the cast of Josh Safdie’s new movie, a story based on the life of ping pong player Marty Mauser.
The actress plays Chalamet’s mother in the A24 movie.
‘I was delighted to be cast as his mom,’ said the Queens, New York native.
She described the award-winning actor as both kind and gifted, expressing her happiness for his achievements.
She jokingly added, ‘He didn’t seem interested in being close, even though I would have been happy if he was!’
