‘SNL’ alum Chris Redd gets candid about ‘pill issues,’ dating Kenan Thompson’s ex-wife

Chris Redd, who used to be on “Saturday Night Live,” is planning to be more honest and open in the future. He recently shared personal details about his struggles with medication and his relationship with the former wife of his SNL colleague, Kenan Thompson, as part of a commitment to this personal goal.

In a heartfelt video posted to Instagram on Tuesday, Redd stated he had seen all the comments and statements people had made. “I saw everything that was said,” he emphasized.

The comedian, who was on “Saturday Night Live” from 2017 to 2022, recently opened up about how struggles with medication during his time on the show contributed to a relationship with the ex-wife of cast member Kenan Thompson, Christina Evangeline – though he didn’t mention her name in his video. He described the issues leading to his departure in September 2022 as a complicated and personal situation.

Redd said Evangeline, who he often referred to as “this lady,” was the only one who pushed him to get help and go to therapy. Their connection and her support eventually led to a romantic relationship.

Redd said he had a negative feeling about the relationship from the beginning, describing it as emotionally complicated because of his working relationship with Kenan Thompson, a well-known performer on ‘Saturday Night Live’.

He added: “I hate doing something to somebody that I know would hurt them.”

After over ten years of marriage, Thompson filed for divorce from Evangeline in 2022. They have two young daughters together. Also in 2022, Thompson left “Saturday Night Live,” and rumors about the reasons behind his departure began circulating online, including a post on the gossip account Deuxmoi. News outlets like TMZ reported on Thompson and Evangeline’s relationship, clarifying that there was no infidelity involved when they first became romantically involved.

In a recent video, Redd explained he chose to follow his heart, even if it meant upsetting some people, including his loved ones and fans. He shared insights from therapy, noting he’s actually more sad than angry, and admitted he doesn’t feel good about dating the ex-wife of Thompson. However, he said Evangeline made him feel a connection he hadn’t experienced before, and he didn’t want to miss the opportunity to explore that.

Redd admitted he could have handled his friendship with Thompson and his romance with Evangeline better, but explained, “I was deeply in love and losing control of my life.”

Kenan Thompson gained fame on “Saturday Night Live” with his spot-on impressions of people like New York City Mayor Eric Adams and rapper Kanye West. Lately, he’s been concentrating on stand-up again and is currently promoting a new project coming out on January 28th.
