The upcoming sequel to The Batman is expected to follow a successful approach used in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. The new film, directed by Matt Reeves, is highly anticipated by comic book movie fans. After a less-successful period for Batman with Ben Affleck, Reeves and star Robert Pattinson brought back the feel of Nolan’s popular Dark Knight films by creating a darker, more realistic tone.
It looks like The Batman – Part 2 will continue the tone and style of Christopher Nolan’s popular Batman movies, according to a recent report by industry insider Jeff Sneider.
Entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider recently shared on X (formerly Twitter) that Barry Keoghan will reprise his role as the Joker in the next Batman movie. He also reported that Sebastian Stan, known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been cast in the sequel, and hinted that Stan will be playing the character of Harvey Dent, who famously becomes Two-Face.

Similar to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (the second Batman film starring Christian Bale), The Batman 2 will likely feature significant roles for both the Joker and Harvey Dent. It’s not yet known if they’ll be the main villains, as they were in The Dark Knight, but there are a lot of similarities between the two movies.
Reports suggested that the next Batman movie might have a female villain as the main bad guy, and some people thought Scarlett Johansson could be playing that role.
The sequel to The Batman, currently titled The Batman – Part 2, is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Director Matt Reeves is returning, with Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Batman. This new film is being described as a deeply personal story for Bruce Wayne. Filming is expected to start this spring.
Breaking Down The Batman – Part 2’s New Villain Report

Since both the Joker and Two-Face are expected to be major characters in The Batman 2, it will be difficult for the filmmakers to avoid comparisons to The Dark Knight. Christopher Nolan’s 2008 film is considered one of the best comic book movies ever made, so any similarities will likely be noticed by fans.
Although The Batman 2 will likely include characters from The Dark Knight, it could stand out in a significant way. A major influence on The Dark Knight was the popular comic book story The Long Halloween, and the sequel could take a different approach to its inspiration.
Let’s be honest, The Dark Knight only borrowed bits and pieces from The Long Halloween – it wasn’t a true adaptation. But The Batman 2 has a real opportunity to go all-in on that source material. And from what I’m hearing, that’s exactly what they’re planning for the 2027 release. It sounds like we’re going to see a much stronger connection to The Long Halloween this time around, and I, for one, am excited about that.
In The Long Halloween, characters like the Joker and Harvey Dent play important roles. However, the main villain is actually Harvey Dent’s wife, Darla, who operates under the alias Holiday. As Holiday, she targets and kills important criminals and political figures throughout Gotham City, timing her crimes to coincide with various holidays.
The possibility of Scarlett Johansson playing Darla in The Batman 2 hints that director Matt Reeves might be planning a closer adaptation of The Long Halloween comic book for the sequel.
