I’m a huge fan of 99 To Beat. I used to feel a little embarrassed about enjoying a show where people struggle with simple challenges, but I’ve completely let go of that. I now love it without reservation, and I really hope it gets a second season. I’m hopeful FOX will renew it, but when they do, there’s one big thing they need to improve. Luckily, I have an idea for how to fix it.
Ultimately, ’99 To Beat’ is a competition where players try to quickly complete a physical challenge to win – making it a sport. However, unlike most sports, it lacks the energy of a live audience. While commentators Ken Jeong and Erin Andrews do a great job of providing enthusiastic support, their excitement can’t quite replicate the feeling of a cheering crowd.
It’s particularly tricky to share sneak peeks because the show isn’t broadcast for several months, and you want to avoid fans revealing any surprises. Plus, viewers aren’t likely to be very engaged since they haven’t gotten to know the contestants yet. Luckily, there’s a dedicated group who are invested: the players who have already been eliminated.
What makes 99 To Beat so enjoyable is seeing former contestants support those still competing. I think the show could make it even better by keeping eliminated players around. Instead of sending them home, they could sit in the audience with microphones and continue to offer encouragement and commentary.
It might feel strange at first to have one person enthusiastically supporting the remaining ninety-nine players, but it would be really entertaining to see who they chose to root for. It would also be heartwarming to witness family members supporting each other, and to see friendships blossom between people who once didn’t know each other. Imagine how great it would have been to see their reactions during a dramatic final moment!
While I really enjoy 99 To Beat, the show isn’t quite hitting its stride yet. It has potential, but needs some improvements. I think a key change would be to keep eliminated contestants around as audience members. The editors could easily minimize any awkwardness, but if it works, their reactions could add a really interesting and emotional layer to the show.
I’m really hoping this show gets another season! It would be amazing if it could run alongside The Floor for years to come. And if it does get renewed, I’m keeping my fingers crossed the creators will be bold and try some new things to really elevate it to the next level. I just want to see it thrive!
