‘Emily in Paris’ Fate Decided by Netflix After Latest Divisive Season

Just eighteen days after the new season launched, Netflix has confirmed that Emily in Paris will be back for another season! Fans will be happy to hear the show isn’t ending and will revisit its original setting. Season 5, which premiered on December 18, 2025, took Emily to Rome, but Netflix has decided to continue the series.

Netflix has announced that Emily in Paris will be back for a sixth season! Lily Collins, the show’s star, revealed the news in a video posted on YouTube. The video shows Collins in Paris, celebrating with a croissant and a candle shaped like the number six. The caption simply stated, “Home sweet home. Emily in Paris is returning for Season 6!”

‘Emily in Paris’ is Now One of Netflix’s Longest Running Series

From the creator of popular shows like Beverly Hills 90210 and Sex and the City, Darren Star, comes Emily in Paris. The series stars Lily Collins as Emily Cooper, an American woman who moves to France for a job and quickly experiences a clash of cultures. The cast also includes Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, Samuel Arnold, and Bruno Gouery. Premiering on October 2, 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Emily in Paris became a quick success for Netflix, offering viewers a lighthearted escape, even though critics weren’t impressed.

As a big fan of Emily in Paris, I was surprised when they announced Season 5 would be filmed in Rome! It actually caused a bit of a stir, with Lily Collins joking about a ‘political love triangle’ between President Macron and the mayor of Rome! But honestly, it turned out to be a great move creatively. Season 5 ended up being the best-received season yet, scoring a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes – way up from previous seasons like Season 4 (68%) and especially Season 1 (61%). It’s interesting though, because while critics loved it, the audience score was the lowest so far, which suggests fans didn’t quite feel the same way. They’ve now decided to move back to Paris for future seasons, which is good news for those of us who love the Parisian setting!

With its renewal for a sixth season, Emily in Paris is becoming one of Netflix’s longest-running original series. Currently, Virgin River holds the top spot, having been renewed for an eighth season even before its seventh season aired. Before that, Grace and Frankie was the longest-running, with seven seasons from 2015 to 2022. Orange Is the New Black also lasted seven seasons (2013-2019), but with a slightly shorter episode count. Emily in Paris now joins shows like The Crown and Peaky Blinders, which each ran for six seasons – a significant achievement, as many Netflix originals don’t last beyond three, and some are cancelled after just one. This means Emily in Paris has now aired more seasons than Stranger Things.
