Lisa Faulkner says husband John Torode ‘holds her hands through everything’ as she launches new career move amid claims their weekend show will be axed after his MasterChef sacking

Lisa Faulkner sweetly described her husband, John Torode, as her ‘best friend’ while he publicly supports her comeback to acting on stage.

Actor Alex Walkinshaw, known for his role in Holby City, will star as Allie, a single mother, in a stage adaptation of the popular 1990s thriller ‘Single White Female’. The play is based on the film and novel of the same name by John Lutz.

She’ll be starring with Kym Marsh, 49, from Coronation Street, who will play the role of a roommate named Hedy who becomes obsessed.

Oh my gosh, you guys, Lisa was talking about how amazing it is working with the chef – he’s 60, can you believe it?! – and she said he’s literally been helping her practice her lines! It’s just… so sweet and supportive, I’m obsessed with them as a duo!

She described her husband as her best friend and biggest support, saying they’re always there for each other. She also praised his kindness and gentlemanly nature.

‘He’s been running through the lines with me. He’s so happy for me.’

The chef, known for sparking debate, also shared heartfelt words about his wife, Lisa. He told the Mirror she’s his constant support, closest friend, and the love of his life, describing her as a ‘Wonder Woman’ and saying that says it all.

Also supporting Lisa’s new career move are her best friends Angela Griffin and Amanda Holden.

Lisa explained that her friends created a separate WhatsApp group so they could coordinate their visit without telling her beforehand, as she’d asked not to know when they were coming.

You know, as someone who’s spent a lot of time on stage, I totally get why performers avoid looking for familiar faces in the audience during a show. It can be incredibly distracting! I personally prefer to focus completely on the performance and connect with everyone as a whole. Checking for friends? That happens after the curtain closes for me – it’s just the best way to stay in the zone.

Single White Female follows a recently divorced mother who takes in a lodger to help ends meet.

As they become friends, Hedy starts to become dangerously fixated on her roommate, and their living situation quickly becomes unstable.

Despite previously saying they would support the former MasterChef host, ITV is reportedly cancelling Lisa and John’s cooking show, Weekend Kitchen.

The BBC let the chef go earlier this year after claims surfaced that he’d used very offensive and racist language back in 2018. He says he doesn’t remember making those statements.

He left the show shortly after Gregg Wallace, 61, was also removed following claims of inappropriate behavior on set.

Although ITV previously supported John – who married Lisa in 2019 after they met on Celebrity Masterchef – it’s now believed their show, which first aired the same year, probably won’t continue.

The final episode of the Weekend Kitchen’s tenth series, a festive special aired last week.

According to a source, John is anxiously awaiting news about Weekend Kitchen, but the situation doesn’t look promising. The team deciding whether to continue the show hasn’t reached a decision yet, and budget cuts are making its production increasingly difficult.

Sources told The Sun that this news will be very upsetting for John, especially since he struggled after losing his job at the BBC.

I’m absolutely thrilled! He’s really going for it with Lisa, and honestly, I’m obsessed with this new cooking show he’s been working on! Everyone’s loving it, and I can’t get enough – it’s just amazing to see him doing so well!

The Daily Mail reached out to John and Lisa’s team for a statement, but ITV chose not to provide one.

Earlier this month, John shared that he’s been in therapy to deal with the emotional impact of losing his job. He explained that the experience helped him learn to accept and process his sadness, and to be authentic rather than trying to appear strong.

He shared on Substack that his life, and the lives of those he loves, have been permanently altered. He emphasized he wasn’t looking for pity, only honesty.

You know, something really powerful happened for me in therapy recently. I realized I’d been spending so much time trying to be strong, to ‘be brave,’ when what I really needed to do was just be real. It’s been incredibly freeing to drop the act and just show up as myself.

John shared in his newsletter that he had been working in Qatar. He described attending the Grand Prix as his first time dealing with his sadness on his own, without his wife by his side.
