Jessie Buckley and her young co-star, Jacobi Jupe, shared a warm hug when they ran into Paul Mescal at the Critics Choice Awards in California on Sunday.
Jessie, a 36-year-old Irish actress playing Agnes Hathaway, won Best Actress for the historical drama, which was adapted from Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 novel.
This movie tells the story of William Shakespeare and his wife, Agnes (historically known as Anne), and how they cope with the loss of their 11-year-old son.
Paul, age 29, played Shakespeare in the movie and received a Best Supporting Actor nomination. However, Jacob Elordi won the award for his role in Frankenstein.
Twelve-year-old Jacobi, who played Hamnet, was also up for the Best Young Actor award, but Miles Caton from Sinners won instead.
Jessie Hamnet and her family looked happy and relaxed at the awards show. She wore an elegant ivory silk top with black flared pants.

She made herself look taller with black heels and completed the look with large diamond earrings.
Paul looked stylish and put-together in his all-black outfit: a blazer, T-shirt, and tailored trousers.
In her acceptance speech after winning, Jessie moved Paul to tears. She expressed gratitude to director Chloe Zhao, her fellow actors, and especially Emily Watson, whom she described as a guiding influence.
She thanked Chloe Zhao, saying she’d been reminded of the profound impact of storytelling and its ability to connect with the most meaningful aspects of life.
Paul, I really like you, and I know many other women here feel the same way, but I’m not going to change my mind.
Being around you is effortless and enjoyable – I feel completely comfortable working with you constantly. You’ve had a huge, positive impact on my life, and I’m grateful for how you’ve helped me grow and connect with my own humanity.
Jessie won against a strong group of competitors including Emma Stone, Amanda Seyfried, Rose Byrne, Chase Infiniti, and Renate Reinsve.
Chloe was nominated for Best Director, but Paul Thomas Anderson won the award for his film, One Battle After Another.

Nina Gold, who worked on the film Hamnet, was nominated for an award recognizing outstanding casting and ensemble work. Łukasz Żal received a nomination for Best Cinematography.
With nominations for Production Design, Costume Design, and Score, Jessie now leads with a total of 11 Critics Choice Awards nominations. This marks the official start of awards season in Hollywood, and Jessie was the biggest winner of the night.
The movie tells the story of Agnes and William Shakespeare as they cope with the devastating loss of their son, Hamnet, to the plague in 16th-century England.
Agnes, a healer herself, needs to find the inner strength to care for her children after experiencing a terrible loss.
The PG-13 movie has received an impressive 8.1 on IMDb and 86% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer.
Timothée Chalamet won Best Actor at the Critics Choice Awards and sweetly acknowledged his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, but the film One Battle After Another was the big winner of the evening, taking home the top prize.
At Sunday’s awards gala in Santa Monica, California, the 30-year-old actor surprisingly won the award over veteran star Leonardo DiCaprio, thanks to his performance in the film Marty Supreme.
Leonardo’s film, One Battle After Another, won Best Picture, and Jessie surprised everyone by winning Best Actress for her performance in Hamnet, beating out a group of highly favored competitors.
The HBO drama The Pitt won the award for Best Drama Series on television, and its star, Noah Wyle, was named Best Actor in a Drama Series.
Okay, so Timothée Chalamet’s acceptance speech was sweet. He gave a lovely public shout-out to Kylie, his girlfriend of three years, and it felt really genuine. He thanked her for building a strong ‘foundation’ with him, which I think is a beautiful way to describe a supportive relationship. It’s always lovely to see celebrities acknowledging the people who support them, and this felt particularly heartfelt.
‘I love you. I couldn’t do this without you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.’

Kylie’s eyes welled up with tears as she gazed at the actor on stage, softly replying, “I love you, too.”
The New York actor won against strong competition, including Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Joel Edgerton (Train Dreams), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent).
As much as I loved Marty Supreme from A24, Leonardo DiCaprio’s One Battle After Another – a Warner Bros. production – ultimately took home the big prize. It was a really strong field though, with amazing films like Bugonia (Focus Features), Frankenstein (Netflix), Hamnet (Focus Features), Jay Kelly (Netflix), Sentimental Value (Neon), Sinners (Warner Bros.), Train Dreams (Netflix), and Wicked: For Good (Universal Pictures) all in the running!
Paul Thomas Anderson earned Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for the action epic.
Nearly twenty years after the popular show E.R. ended, Noah Wyle, known for his role in that series, received a top award at a gala for his work on the HBO drama, The Pitt.
The 54-year-old actor won Best Actor in a Drama Series, and his show was also named Best Drama Series – the night’s biggest prize.
