Awkward moment Leonardo DiCaprio roasted over lavish lifestyle with Jeff Bezos at Critics Choice Awards

Leonardo DiCaprio was playfully criticized for his luxurious lifestyle at the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday.

Chelsea Handler, the host, started the show with a humorous story about how Leonardo DiCaprio nearly didn’t make it to the awards ceremony.

Oh my gosh, can you believe it? He missed the Palm Springs Film Festival! Apparently, those U.S. airstrikes in Venezuela caused all sorts of travel nightmares, and he just couldn’t get here after that. It’s awful, but honestly, it just proves how much is going on with everything, and he’s still trying to manage it all! I was SO hoping to see him there…

The host cheerfully pointed out that the 51-year-old celebrity had recently been seen vacationing on Jeff Bezos’ luxurious yacht in the Caribbean, near St. Barts.

Leonardo DiCaprio, with his girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti, also chatted with football star Tom Brady.

Handler couldn’t help but joke about Leo’s environmental activism. He quipped that Leo nearly missed the event because he was stuck on a boat in St. Barts, comparing it to the Titanic – but with the added detail that Jeff Bezos was also on board.

Leonardo DiCaprio, up for an award for his film One Battle After Another, reacted to a joke with an embarrassed smile and a look at the cameras, prompting a big laugh from the audience.

Handler then playfully turned to Benicio del Toro, saying, ‘Benicio, you’ve been amazing this year! We want to see you in more roles – don’t be so picky!’

‘I need you in more movies, in more TV shows, in room 708 at the Andaz Hotel tonight.’

Honestly, she really went for it! She didn’t just stick to the surface level – she threw out some pointed comments about Nicki Minaj’s views on politics, what she called ‘White Hollywood,’ and even got into the drama between Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan. It was a lot!

Timothée Chalamet was playfully called ‘a labubu,’ and Jacob Elordi was praised for being so tall.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s comment followed a clear joke made at the expense of Timothée Chalamet and his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, on the red carpet.

Meg Stalter and Paul W. Downs, stars of the show Hacks, turned heads at a Santa Monica event on Sunday with their spot-on recreation of a famous couple’s outfits from the Marty Supreme premiere. They perfectly copied the couple’s stylish Chrome Hearts looks, which had generated a lot of buzz just weeks before.

This wasn’t a casual nod – it was a full-blown send-up.

Downs, age 43, fully embraced the Timothée Chalamet look, appearing in a vibrant orange leather suit, silk shirt, and matching boots.

Stalter, 35, convincingly portrayed Jenner, wearing a long orange dress with bold cutouts under the chest and around the waist.

Okay, so I have to tell you, I just saw the cutest recreation! It seems a fan couple totally nailed those iconic poses from Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet at the ‘Marty’ premiere. They really went all out – everything from how they stood to how they moved on the ‘red carpet’ was spot-on! It was hilarious and honestly, incredibly well done.

Similar to Jenner, Stalter expertly copied her mannerisms, posing for the cameras, subtly guiding Downs’ hands, and even mirroring Jenner’s famous hand movements.

She playfully acted on cue, tossing her hair and leaning into Downs’ embrace, giving a flirty look over her shoulder that reminded everyone of a famous pose by Jenner.

The outfit was completed with a cross necklace, a matching accessory, and orange heels, all inspired by Jenner’s iconic look.

Erica D. Schwartz designed the duo’s fantastic costumes, but it was their funny performance that really captured everyone’s attention.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always on the lookout for shows that really resonate, and HBO’s Hacks is one of them. It’s a brilliantly funny series starring the incredible Jean Smart as a Vegas legend – a seasoned comedian, really – who finds herself unexpectedly mentoring a young, up-and-coming writer, played by Hannah Einbinder. It’s a complicated relationship, full of laughs and surprisingly touching moments, and it’s absolutely worth checking out!

Stalter is fantastic as Kayla Schaefer, a hilariously inappropriate and overly confident assistant who constantly steals the show with her crazy behavior.

Downs not only co-created and executive produced the show, but also stars as Jimmy LuSaque Jr., a quick-witted manager always hustling to succeed and keep his clients happy.

Throughout the evening, Smart and Einbinder met up with Downs and Stalter on the red carpet, boosting the event’s glamorous atmosphere.

Timothée Chalamet, 30, and Kendall Jenner, 28, first sparked interest when they appeared together at the premiere of Marty Supreme on December 8th. It was their second time being seen together on a red carpet.

The couple first appeared publicly together earlier this year in Rome at the David Di Donatello Awards, where Timothée Chalamet received an award recognizing his contributions to film.

Timothée Chalamet has been nominated for Best Actor for his performance in Marty Supreme. He’s competing against strong contenders including Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent).

The nominees for Best Actress are Jessie Buckley for her role in Hamnet, Rose Byrne in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Chase Infiniti for One Battle After Another, Renate Reinsve in Sentimental Value, Amanda Seyfried for The Testament of Ann Lee, and Emma Stone for Bugonia.

The nominees for Best Supporting Actor are Benicio Del Toro for One Battle After Another, Jacob Elordi for Frankenstein, Paul Mescal for Hamnet, Sean Penn for One Battle After Another, Adam Sandler for Jay Kelly, and Stellan Skarsgård for Sentimental Value.

The nominees for Best Supporting Actress are Elle Fanning for ‘Sentimental Value,’ Ariana Grande for ‘Wicked: For Good,’ Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for ‘Sentimental Value,’ Amy Madigan for ‘Weapons,’ Wunmi Mosaku for ‘Sinners,’ and Teyana Taylor for ‘One Battle After Another’.

On the television side, the acting races are just as competitive.

The leading contenders for best Drama Series actor include Sterling K. Brown for Paradise, Adam Scott for Severance, Diego Luna for Andor, Billy Bob Thornton for Landman, and Keri Russell for The Diplomat. Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us) and Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age) also delivered noteworthy performances.

The comedy awards feature both well-known stars and exciting new faces. Nominees include Adam Brody and Kristen Bell for Nobody Wants This, Ted Danson (A Man on the Inside), Jean Smart (Hacks), Danny McBride (The Righteous Gemstones), and Seth Rogen (The Studio).

Oh my gosh, I’m absolutely losing it over the limited series and TV movie contenders! Stephen Graham in ‘Adolescence’ is just…wow. And Brian Tyree Henry as the ‘Dope Thief’? Genius casting! I’ve already watched everything Charlie Hunnam’s been in, and ‘Monster: The Ed Gein Story’ is no exception – he’s incredible. Sarah Snook in ‘All Her Fault’ is captivating, honestly. Michelle Williams always delivers, and ‘Dying for Sex’ looks intense. But honestly? Renée Zellweger bringing back Bridget Jones in ‘Mad About the Boy’ is a dream come true! I’m obsessed with all of them!

Several actors delivered exceptional performances in supporting roles, including Tramell Tillman from Severance, Billy Crudup from The Morning Show, Allison Janney from The Diplomat, Hannah Einbinder from Hacks, Janelle James from Abbott Elementary, Julianne Moore from Sirens, and Nick Offerman from Death by Lightning.

On television, “Adolescence” is the frontrunner with six nominations, while “Nobody Wants This” is a close second with five.

Popular titles such as The Diplomat, Hacks, The Pitt, All Her Fault, and Ghosts also performed very well.

Major film and TV studios are fiercely competing for recognition, with Warner Bros. receiving the most film nominations and Netflix being the frontrunner in television.

This year’s event will feature four new award categories: best variety series, outstanding casting, innovative stunt design, and exceptional sound work.

On the red carpet, expect a parade of A-listers.

Stars like Timothée Chalamet, Emma Stone, and Ariana Grande are anticipated to be at the event, along with presenters such as Colman Domingo, Regina Hall, Diego Luna, Allison Janney, Kaley Cuoco, Ava DuVernay, Bradley Whitford, and Billy Bob Thornton.

The Critics Choice Awards began in 1995, created by the Broadcast Film Critics Association. This group started as a small collective of about 60 film journalists who wanted to celebrate outstanding movies.

The organization grew to also cover television and streaming content, and many of its previous winners – including films like La La Land, Nomadland, and Everything Everywhere All at Once – have gone on to win Academy Awards.

What started as a small meeting has grown into a large, glamorous event held at the Barker Hangar, attracting hundreds of celebrities and fans excited to see the first major awards of the season.

The 31st Critics Choice Awards also represent Chelsea Handler’s comeback to E!, the network where she hosted her talk show for eight years.

The show has had different hosts in recent years. Taye Diggs hosted from 2019 to 2021, and in 2022, he co-hosted with Nicole Byer.

The show has previously been hosted by a variety of talented individuals, including Olivia Munn, T.J. Miller, Michael Strahan, Aisha Tyler, Kristin Chenoweth, and D.L. Hughley.

Actor Eric McCormack served as the ceremony’s first-ever host in 2005.
