Story Highlights
- John Wick is a neo-noir action franchise created by Derek Kolstad and directed by Chad Stahelski.
- Currently, the John Wick series includes live-action films and has also expanded into graphic novels.
- The game could be an action-adventure title with cinematic cutscenes, intense gunfights and close quarter combat, and impressive visuals.
Okay, so if I had to pick one movie franchise that needs a mobile game, it’s gotta be John Wick. Seriously, Keanu Reeves kicking butt in those movies is amazing, and there are so many fans like me! It’s kinda crazy we don’t have a proper action game for it yet. But let’s think about what that game could actually be like… I’m already imagining all the awesome possibilities!
Featured Column – Mobile Games We Wish Existed
GamingonPhone’s ‘Mobile Games We Wish Existed’ is a regular feature where we brainstorm unique game ideas and think about how well-known franchises could work on mobile devices. We explore both popular and lesser-known series, focusing on what would make them fun and easy to play while you’re on the move.
What is John Wick all about
John Wick is a thrilling action series created by Derek Kolstad and starring Keanu Reeves as a legendary assassin. The story is captivating because it follows Wick after he’s forced out of retirement and back into a dangerous criminal world.
He was once among the world’s most feared and respected hitmen, known as Baba Yaga or the Boogeyman. But he left that life behind, hoping for peace with his wife, until she tragically died from an illness.

His retirement wasn’t a clean break, though. He’d spent years working for the dangerous Tarasov Mob, completing incredibly difficult assignments – like eliminating all of their rivals in a single night. Remarkably, he pulled it off and enjoyed five peaceful years. That peace was shattered when his former boss’s son killed his dog, setting the story in motion.
As a big fan of Keanu Reeves, I think now is the perfect time for a John Wick mobile game, especially with a fifth movie in the works. It could be really successful if done right – either by playing like the Hitman games, or by creating a brand new story and characters within the John Wick universe, while still capturing the exciting action and detailed world we love.
Genre for an imagined John Wick title
A John Wick game would be amazing as a full-fledged action-adventure title, similar to HITMAN World of Assassination. It should really emphasize strategic combat and the over-the-top action the movies are famous for. Imagine playing as a younger John Wick, starting out at the Continental Hotel and taking on missions that test your skills in stealth, shooting, and hand-to-hand combat.
It would be great to have some freedom in how we tackle things – maybe using stealth and surprise, setting traps, or going in with a direct, action-packed approach like in the John Wick movies. And having a good selection of weapons, including the iconic pencil, would make it even better.
The game could center around taking on contracts to eliminate targets in a gritty city, ranging from the criminal underworld to high-profile assignments, similar to Hitman: Absolution. Challenging enemies and boss battles would be great, and I’d welcome elements like gang warfare. Beyond the main story and side missions, it would be fantastic if your actions had consequences, impacting your reputation and requiring you to rebuild it after failures.
Art style and visuals for an imagined John Wick game
If a John Wick game were to be made, I’d prefer a style that feels grounded and realistic, like games such as Sniper Elite or Assassin’s Creed Mirage, but with a strong cinematic presentation. I can already picture a visually stunning world – think neon-lit streets, fancy hotels, and rain-soaked alleys with dramatic lighting.

As a huge fan, what I really hope for with the character designs is something realistic, not too cartoonish. I want the faces, clothes, and personalities to really feel true to the source material. And because John Wick is famous for its incredible action, it would be amazing to see those same cinematic, movie-quality scenes between missions – that’s a big part of what makes it so great!
Whoever takes on this project needs to put in the effort to create satisfying and intense gunplay and close-combat encounters. It should feel smooth, impactful, and give players full control, especially for those who have been fans for a long time. Hopefully, it won’t hold back on showing realistic violence or gritty fights.
Beloved characters from the franchise that could shine in a John Wick game
Compelling characters are just as crucial as gameplay, as they make the game world feel more immersive. Characters from the John Wick universe would be perfect as challenging bosses or helpful guides who offer assistance and direction during missions. It would be great to have the option to work with these characters and complete missions as a team.

I’d love to see memorable characters like Viggo Tarasov and his son, Iosef Tarasov, Ms. Perkins (who turns on the Continental), Killa Harkan, Tracker, Santino D’Antonio, or even The Marquis de Gramont featured as powerful bosses or as key targets in this over-the-top game.
Beyond the main villains, characters like Winston Scott, Aurelio, Charon, and the Continental Doctor could be developed as key NPCs to help players progress. I think this would make the game world feel more believable and engaging.
Why a John Wick game will be great for mobile
John Wick is a popular and well-regarded franchise, and like the Hitman games, it has strong potential for success in the mobile gaming market. With several John Wick movies already made, there’s plenty of existing material to draw from – the game could be a direct adaptation of the films or a new story inspired by the same world.
With the current popularity of relaxing, automated games and dungeon crawlers, a fast-paced action-adventure game based on this exciting source material would be a welcome change. The movies and Keanu Reeves already have a dedicated following, and the franchise needs to capitalize on that appeal to attract both longtime fans and new players.
