Barry Keoghan is unrecognisable with curly red hair on set for his new movie in Dublin as he throws himself into work after ex Sabrina Carpenter’s New Year’s swipe

Barry Keoghan was unrecognisable on set for his new movie in Dublin on Saturday.

The 33-year-old Irish actor looked almost unrecognizable with a dramatic hair change – he swapped his typically shaved, dark hair for long, red curls.

For the independent film Lemonade, Barry played a character named Josh, and he even wore pajama bottoms during filming!

Kim Barley is the director of the project, which also features performances by Irish actors Lewis Brophy, Connie Doona, and Graham Earley.

The movie is said to be loosely based on Barry’s life, showing his struggles with drug addiction. Filming is currently underway, taking place far from his hometown.

The actor, who has been nominated for an Oscar, experienced a difficult childhood. He lost his mother, Debbie, to a heroin overdose when he was only 12 years old, and he didn’t have a relationship with his father.

In a 2024 interview on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Barry fondly remembered his ‘lovely, gorgeous’ mother, but sadly spoke about how she fell victim to addiction.

‘That kind of haunts me still, you don’t forget those things,’ he said.

Barry’s early life was difficult because of his mother’s struggles with addiction. When he was five years old, he and his brother Eric were placed in foster care, moving between 13 different homes until they finally found a stable home with their aunt and grandmother in a small apartment.

Barry has quickly become well-known in Hollywood, gaining fame from his part in the movie Saltburn and his relationship with Sabrina.

Even though it’s been more than a year since their split, Sabrina recently made a pointed comment about her ex and their relationship.

The singer shared a TikTok post on her social media, celebrating surviving a difficult year and avoiding reconciliation with a former partner. The post read: ‘It’s been a tough year, but at least I didn’t get back with my ex’.

Sabrina recently dated an Irish actor she met at Paris Fashion Week in September 2023. Their relationship lasted until late 2024.

The TikTok featured Sabrina’s popular song, “Manchild,” which many people think she wrote about Barry following their split.

When Sabrina released the song in 2025, many of her fans believed the lyrics were about her relationship with Barry.

She announced the release date of her new song, playfully hinting it was inspired by her ex. She wrote, ‘This one’s about you!! Manchild comes out this Thursday, June 5th at 8pm.’

Sabrina Carpenter’s followers noticed she shared a TikTok video – one of two with a similar message – and commented on how relatable the post was.

Fans reacted to her daring decision with comments like ‘That was a direct attack!’ and ‘It doesn’t look good for Barry!’ Some were more hopeful, suggesting he might actually benefit from the situation, while others pointed out he didn’t seem interested in the first place.

People are celebrating small victories and authenticity online. Comments included praising someone for simply being genuine, and acknowledging that sometimes, just sharing something again – a ‘repost’ – feels like a real win and a significant accomplishment.

Although many fans believe Sabrina’s song ‘Manchild’ is about her ex-boyfriend Barry, she avoided directly answering the question when Seth Meyers asked her about it on his late-night show. She was asked which of her former partners inspired the song.

Rather than respond, Sabrina calmly reached for a beer and took a deliberate drink while the camera was rolling, allowing the silence and the intrigue to do the talking.
