It was a twist designed by producers to upend the game.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m hearing buzz that we’re about to find out who the ‘Secret Traitor‘ on ‘The Traitors’ really is – and it’s happening much faster than anyone expected! Viewers have been speculating for weeks, but the reveal is coming sooner than anticipated, which is going to make for some seriously exciting television.
After Hugo, a barrister and the first player revealed as a Traitor, was unexpectedly eliminated, the Faithful players likely felt like things were starting to turn in their favor.
Instead, Stephen, 32, and Rachel, 42, who had previously been identified as Traitors, were given a task meant to regain control from the single Traitor who’s been working secretly since the beginning of the show.
They finished the task, so we’ll know their identities within a few days.
In a shocking and tense moment, the two contestants had to secretly choose nine people from a family tree painting as potential ‘murder’ victims, all while being watched.

Each person was instructed to press a finger dipped in bright red ink next to the nine names of those they intended to focus on before the night ended.
If they won, one of the nine players would be killed the next day, and the hidden Traitor would reveal themselves, joining the deceased as one of three eliminated players.
The location itself made the challenge dangerous. Stephen admitted he was completely panicked because the contestants kept moving past the painting, which was positioned right in the center of the castle.
“My heart is racing,” he admitted. “I’m really hoping nobody comes through this castle right now.”
Rachel handled the fingerprinting process, and Stephen acted as a lookout. To throw off suspicion, Rachel cleverly added Stephen’s name to the list of nine potential matches.
Also marked for potential murder were Sam, Jade, Amanda, Reece, Maz, James, Jack and Faraaz.
And against the odds, the pair completed the task without being caught.
Host Claudia Winkleman, 53, shared that the remaining Traitors managed to pick their targets for elimination right under everyone’s noses, giving them back control and allowing them to plan their next move with the hidden Traitor.

But unity among the villains is still far from guaranteed.
As the show neared its end, Rachel expressed skepticism about the new candidate, telling Stephen, ‘We won’t need anyone who comes through that door.’
This happened after Stephen callously betrayed Hugo, another member of their group, during a meeting to safeguard his own standing.
Stephen confessed he hadn’t planned to betray his old friend, but felt forced into it.
“This is unbelievable,” he muttered. He hadn’t anticipated revealing another traitor so soon, but Harriet’s dramatic intervention left him with no other choice.
Rachel expressed her pleasure at Hugo being removed, telling Stephen that the lawyer had brought the situation on himself.
They made a deal: they wouldn’t write each other’s names down, hoping to both reach the final and share the £120,000 prize – a first for any pair of Traitors on the show.
The Traitors continues on January 7 at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
