We wanted to handle the breakup realistically, acknowledging the deep issues that caused it, and not rush through it. Tim and Lucy’s breakup was really difficult, particularly because they’d been trying to make things work for a long time. Despite still caring for each other and managing to stay friends, there was always a bit of awkwardness between them. That’s why Tim finally confessing his love in the Season 7 finale felt like a turning point and a hopeful resolution.
It was especially sad that Lucy missed Tim telling her he loved her. However, the new season will feature them talking – likely about everything – which suggests they might be on the path to reconnecting.

I’m glad Tim and Lucy are still talking, but I’m not sure how their conversation will go. Their split was unexpected, and Tim was largely at fault – he was acting independently and didn’t want to involve Lucy in his issues. Lucy has been clear about how much he hurt her, and even a preview of Season 8 shows her telling him that. While there’s still a chance for them to reconcile, it will likely take a while for things to get better.
Tim and Lucy had a difficult time after their breakup, particularly during Season 7, and it wasn’t just about the unreciprocated confession. Earlier in the season, they encountered a truth serum that brought secrets to light, creating a lot of new problems. Their relationship is complicated, and while I hope they get back together, I’m excited to see how things unfold for them in Season 8, with all its challenges and successes.
