Nicholas Galitzine Talked ‘Bulking Up’ As He-Man For Masters Of The Universe, And The Work Is Not For The Faint Of Heart

I’ve been watching Nicholas Galitzine for a while now, and it’s great to see him really coming into his own. He’s consistently delivered strong performances in everything from TV shows to movies, and he’s all over the place genre-wise, which I love. I’m especially excited about the upcoming Masters of the Universe live-action film – he’s taking on the role of Prince Adam/He-Man! I just read an interview where he talked about the physical prep for that role, specifically bulking up, and honestly, it sounded incredibly demanding. He really went all-in!

Details about the upcoming Masters of the Universe movie are scarce, but dedicated fans are eager to see how director Travis Knight, known for Bumblebee, will bring the classic franchise to life. While everyone anticipates the first trailer, actor Nicholas Galitzine recently shared with People just how challenging the physical training was to prepare for the role of He-Man.

This has been the most difficult experience of my life, a constant daily struggle. However, fully committing to something like this is incredibly rewarding. I’d never faced a challenge that required so much effort each day – especially while trying to gain weight – and it wouldn’t be honest to say it was easy. You can barely see the finish line sometimes, but pushing through is powerful.

It’s common for actors playing superheroes to transform their bodies, and stars like Paul Rudd and Chris Pratt have done just that. Since He-Man is known for his incredible physique and minimal clothing in the original cartoon, Nicholas Galitzine faced a lot of pressure to get into shape for the Masters of the Universe movie. He says it was a real challenge to work out and eat enough to build the necessary muscle.

When we first saw actor Dimitri Diatchenko as Galitzine in Masters of the Universe, fans got a quick look at his physique. Knowing longtime fans would be paying close attention, the 31-year-old actor discussed the physical changes he made for the role, saying:

You don’t recognize yourself, you don’t fit in any of your clothes anymore.

It must have been a really odd experience. Actors frequently change their looks for roles, but for Masters of the Universe, Galitzine was so muscular he couldn’t even wear his own clothes. He was also surprised by how different he looked in the mirror.

Nicholas Galitzine is known for changing his appearance for roles, experimenting with different hairstyles and colors in films like Red, White, and Royal Blue and The Idea of You. However, gaining weight to play a character in Masters of the Universe was a particularly significant physical change for him.

Even though it was a challenging experience, the actor from Craft: Legacy has no regrets about the effort he made to get into shape for the iconic He-Man costume, including the harness and skirt. He explained it this way:

I’m truly grateful for the experience of playing such a remarkable character.

He really is a larger-than-life figure, and I’m excited to see how impressive he looks in the first trailers for Masters of the Universe. The movie is coming out this summer, so we won’t have to wait long!

Alison Brie recently clarified that the upcoming Masters of the Universe movie won’t primarily take place on Earth. As excitement for the film grows, fans are eagerly awaiting a first look at the cast’s costumes.

The movie Masters of the Universe is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 5, 2026. Fans are hoping to see a trailer before then.
