Grey’s Anatomy’s Original Villain Returns In New Season 22 Winter Trailer

ABC has just dropped the first trailer for season 22 of Grey’s Anatomy, giving fans a glimpse of a returning classic villain. The network started its 2025-2026 season a bit early, which means the show will take a mid-season break sooner than usual. However, ABC is avoiding last year’s unusual schedule, where some shows didn’t return from break until almost springtime.

A new season of Grey’s Anatomy is almost here! Season 22 returns in just one week, picking up storylines left unfinished at the end of last year – including Jo’s ongoing challenges and Richard’s personal difficulties. And to add to the drama, the show is bringing back Addison Montgomery, one of the original characters and a former antagonist.

A short, 13-second trailer for the upcoming season 22 of Grey’s Anatomy reveals Kate Walsh returning to the Seattle hospital where she used to work. The trailer, shared by ABC (via @GreysTvNews), shows Addison working alongside Amelia. You can watch it here:

When Addison was first introduced at the end of Grey’s Anatomy‘s first season, she was portrayed as a rival to Meredith and Derek’s growing relationship. As Derek’s ex-wife, her presence created drama and nearly derailed their romance. However, the show quickly developed her character, and she eventually became a fan favorite.

Since launching her own show, Private Practice, Addison has returned to Seattle several times. The last time we saw her on Grey’s Anatomy was during season 19. It’s interesting to see what brings her back to the Pacific Northwest, but given she’s filming scenes with Amelia, it likely involves her job. Caterina Scorsone, who plays Amelia, hasn’t been in many episodes of Grey’s Anatomy season 22, so it’s wonderful to see her back and working with her former on-screen sister-in-law.

I was a little disappointed to hear that Adelaide Kane’s character, Jules Walsh, is only scheduled for one episode in season 22 of Grey’s Anatomy. But honestly, the writers have left things open-ended enough that I’m still hoping we’ll see more of her down the line. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too long to find out – the new season kicks off on January 8th, 2026, and I’ll definitely be tuning in!
