‘Wicked: For Good’ is Now Available to Stream at Home

Good news for fans of Wicked! The movie is now available to purchase or rent, just in time to enjoy the music and story from Jon M. Chu’s billion-dollar adaptation of the hit Broadway show.

I’m so excited – the second Wicked movie is already number one on the Apple Store charts here in the U.S.! Everyone is clearly as eager as I am to jump back into that incredible world of music, emotion, and magic. Wicked: For Good picks up right where the first movie left off, with Elphaba on the run and trying to reveal the Wizard of Oz for who he really is. It’s amazing to see her story and Glinda’s paths cross again, even as they both head towards their own unique futures. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!

The movie Wicked was a major hit in 2024, earning $758 million and ranking among the year’s top films. Its sequel, Wicked: For Good, received even better reviews, but didn’t achieve the same financial success at the box office. While Wicked: For Good has grossed £505 million globally, it currently sits around the number 13 spot for 2025’s highest-grossing movies.

As a huge movie fan, I’m not at all surprised by how quickly this film is making money digitally. Considering Wicked: Part One already earned back the entire budget for both films, it was clear this universe was a hit! The story of the witches of Oz has really resonated with audiences over the last couple of years, so it’s only natural that people are now talking about continuing the story with even more movies. I, for one, am excited!

Will ‘Wicked’ Continue With a Third Movie?

Although the musical version of Wicked has concluded, the franchise has a lot of potential to continue, drawing from the other novels by Gregory Maguire. In addition to stories about the Cowardly Lion and Elphaba’s child, Maguire has recently published a book detailing the Wicked Witch’s early life and plans to release a new novel focusing on Glinda. This opens up many possibilities for future films to further explore the world created by L. Frank Baum for years to come.

Universal Pictures’ marketing head, Michael Moses, recently suggested that the studio is actively discussing the possibility of continuing the Wicked film series. He stated:

Given how well ‘Wicked’ has done and the incredible support from its fans, we feel a strong desire to explore ways to expand this story and continue within this world. We haven’t finalized any plans yet, but we’re actively working on possibilities.

I know a lot of us are wondering if we really need more Oz movies, especially when so many of L. Frank Baum’s original books haven’t even been turned into films yet. It sounds like if they do make another Wicked movie, it might be quite different from the recent two-part adaptation. They really changed Gregory Maguire’s book to tie it in closely with the classic 1939 Wizard of Oz film. But right now, I’m just thrilled we finally have the full musical version to enjoy whenever we want!
