Adolescence star responds to Doctor Who casting rumours

Following Ncuti Gatwa’s departure from Doctor Who and a puzzling regeneration featuring Billie Piper, fans have been eagerly guessing who will play the next Doctor.

Earlier this year, actress Erin Doherty, known for her role in Adolescence, was a strong contender for a part, and bookmakers even listed her as the most likely candidate.

Recently, in an interview with Radio Times, Doherty responded to speculation about potentially joining the cast of Doctor Who and traveling in the TARDIS.

I’ve seen the rumors about Doctor Who,” Doherty stated. “I enjoy science fiction and fantasy, but I can truthfully say we haven’t had any conversations about it!”

Doherty responded to questions about a potential second season of the popular Netflix series Adolescence, stating she hadn’t received any information about it, but would definitely be interested in returning if it happened.

Many fans of Doctor Who believe David Tennant will reprise his role as the Time Lord in the upcoming Christmas Special scheduled for 2026.

The upcoming special episode is being written by Russell T Davies, and Billie Piper, who previously starred alongside David Tennant, will also be appearing in it.

The ‘Tennant theory’ began after the actor discussed his career in a BBC online interview for ‘The Whoniverse Show’. The interview celebrated the 20th anniversary of his first episode, ‘The Christmas Invasion’.

Earlier this year, David Tennant mentioned he’d be open to returning to the show during an interview on the podcast Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum.

Tennant explained that whether he’d return would depend on the situation. He mentioned enjoying a previous short return a couple of years ago, where he filmed three episodes in a row.
