With only a few days remaining in 2025, it’s been a significant year for theme parks, and there’s still potential for more changes before the year ends. Walt Disney World, in particular, has seen a lot of transformation this year, with the reimagining of areas like Rivers of America and most of Dinoland U.S.A. Now, another familiar landmark is going: the PizzeRizzo sign at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
However, I don’t think we should worry too much about this development yet.
The PizzeRizzo Sign Is Gone
Grand Avenue, also called Muppet Courtyard, closed earlier this year to make room for a new Monsters, Inc.-themed area. This meant the popular Muppet*Vision 3D show has ended, and PizzeRizzo, the surprisingly well-loved pizza place, has served its last meal. Even while construction was underway, the large sign for PizzeRizzo’s pizza remained visible, bringing back memories of the area’s past.
BlogMickey recently posted photos showing that the PizzeRizzo sign has been taken down at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Many fans see this as the end of an era for the restaurant, but I suspect it might not be gone for good.
The New Monsters Inc. Land Is Just Going To Get A Rethemed Pizza Place, Right?
While PizzeRizzo is closed, it wasn’t just the famous rat Muppet that people enjoyed. They also liked the food and the overall vibe of the restaurant, and it’s possible some of that will return in the future.
It’s currently unknown what will take the place of PizzeRizzo, but it will likely be another fast-food restaurant. I suspect Disney World will probably keep it as a pizza place, since they already have the equipment, pizza is a popular choice for theme park visitors, and Hollywood Studios currently lacks a dedicated pizza option now that PizzeRizzo is closed.
There are definitely other options too. The Japanese restaurant featured in the first Monsters, Inc. movie, Harryhausen’s, would be a logical addition to the new theme park area, allowing guests to experience a location from the film. I enjoy sushi, but unless the park commits to a high-quality experience similar to Shiki-Sai in Epcot, theme park sushi just doesn’t sound very appealing.
When the new Monsters Inc. area opens, it will likely include a pizza restaurant themed to the movie. While it won’t be a completely new experience – the food and overall setup will be similar to what was offered at the previous location – it should satisfy those who enjoyed the pizza. Though some might still prefer the old PizzeRizzo, I believe the pizza itself could return to the menu soon.
