Helen George has expressed concern that women’s rights and the feminist movement are under serious threat. She believes this is due to the growing influence of nationalism and prominent figures like Nigel Farage of Reform UK and Andrew Tate.
Helen George, 41, the star of the popular BBC series Call the Midwife, has expressed concern that a growing backlash against feminist ideas could threaten women’s rights and well-being in the UK today.
In a recent interview with The Mirror, Helen expressed concern that increasing toxic masculinity could lead society down a dangerous path, drawing a comparison to the dystopian world depicted in The Handmaid’s Tale.
This dark story depicts a society where women have lost all their rights and are controlled by a male-dominated government, with no control over their own bodies.
Helen expressed concern about a growing trend of patriarchal attitudes, finding it frightening. She believes the rise in nationalism, exemplified by displays like St George’s flags, is often accompanied by opposition to feminist ideas, pointing to the influence of figures like Andrew Tate as an example.
She expressed her concern that they were being tricked or misled, telling her partner she worried things could drastically worsen in just a few years, potentially leading to a situation resembling the dystopian world depicted in The Handmaid’s Tale. She asked if he understood what she meant.

The actress is now dating businessman Dan Innes, after ending her relationship with Jack Ashton, her former co-star on Call the Midwife, last year. She and her ex-partner have two daughters together.
Helen also voiced worries about the future of abortion rights, suggesting women’s access to them might not be as safe as people think.
She expressed concern that progress for women is more fragile than people realize. While many believe women have achieved significant power, she fears that’s being threatened, citing anti-abortion legislation as an example. She anticipates these issues will likely be discussed in Parliament, particularly if Nigel Farage gains influence.
Helen pointed out that even though abortion became legal in the UK in 1967, it remains a relevant issue. She also expressed her disbelief that abortion is now illegal in certain states in the United States.
This interview is happening now that filming has finished on the fifteenth season of Call the Midwife, which will be shown on television early next year.
The beloved show premiered in 2012 and has grown to include 14 seasons with over 100 episodes, all centered around the lives of the nurses and nuns working in Poplar.
Okay, so I was absolutely freaking out when I saw this article in The Daily Star earlier this year! Apparently, the people in charge are thinking this next series might be the last one! They want the show to end while it’s still amazing, you know? ‘Go out on a high,’ they said. Honestly, the thought is killing me, but I get it… they want to leave us wanting more, I guess. Still, I’m not ready to say goodbye!
Oh my goodness, I just heard the most devastating news! Apparently, after all these years – all the babies, all the tears, all the incredible stories – Call the Midwife is really ending! Someone close to the show let it slip that the team has decided it’s time to bring it to a close. I can’t believe it! It’s like saying goodbye to family. They want to end it on a high note, and I guess that makes sense, but I’m absolutely heartbroken!

This marks the final appearance of these beloved characters. The show will wrap up most of its storylines, bringing everything to a satisfying conclusion. While the cast and crew are sad to see it end, they’re committed to giving the series a proper send-off.
As a huge fan, I was so thrilled to hear a little hint that ‘Call the Midwife’ might not be over for good! Someone close to the show let slip that the writers are definitely open to doing a special episode sometime down the line. They’re not ruling anything out, which gives me so much hope that we might see Nonnatus House again!
Earlier this year, Heidi Thomas, the creator of the show, suggested that the series might pause production at some point.
In a recent interview with Radio Times, she explained that for those who have been with the show from the start – both the cast and the people making it – it’s more than just a job, it’s a huge part of their lives.
I doubt Call the Midwife will be cancelled completely, but it’s possible we’ll have a pause in new episodes at some point.
The writer explained that every year, they have discussions about whether the show should eventually end and what future goals they might have for it.
Heidi suggested that if the show pauses, it would be to explore other stories related to Call the Midwife, and also hinted at the possibility of a new spin-off series.
The BBC has confirmed that Call the Midwife will continue to be a key part of its programming for the foreseeable future, reassuring its loyal viewers.
As we’ve shared before, fans can look forward to two Christmas specials, a brand new series, a film, and a prequel series. And of course, a sixteenth series is also planned! Rest assured, Call the Midwife will continue to be on our screens.
