Harlan Coben fans can expect “pure terror” moments from new thriller Run Away

Harlan Coben‘s latest thriller, Run Away, promises to be a truly frightening series, with the lead actors hinting at intensely scary scenes. The new Netflix show follows a father’s desperate hunt for his missing daughter and stars James Nesbitt, known from Missing You, and Ruth Jones, famous for Gavin and Stacey.

Speaking to Digital Spy about another Harlan Coben series, Lazarus, Jones described a particularly frightening moment. He said something in the show scared him so badly that he made a sound he’d never made before, a sound of ‘pure terror’.

When asked about similar scenes appearing in Run Away, Nesbitt, who also stars in the show, said that there are indeed a few.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Jones described what it was like filming her first scene with Nesbitt.

Honestly, I was so nervous! I’m a huge Jimmy fan – I think he’s an amazing actor. So, the idea of actually being in a scene with him was pretty intimidating. It’s always scary going into a project with someone you’ve never met or worked with before, and this was definitely that!

She added that she “really enjoyed that first scene”.

Nesbitt shared Jones’ sentiment, stating that they were “really lucky” to have bonded on set.

Nesbitt explained that a good working relationship between the actors was crucial, mirroring the close bond between their characters on screen. He described them as a strong comedic duo who rely heavily on each other throughout the show.

The actors discussed what fans can anticipate in the final episode of Run Away, with Jones comparing the experience of watching it to seeing the popular 90s film The Sixth Sense.

One of the best parts about watching a movie like The Sixth Sense is how much more you appreciate it on a second viewing. I think the same is true for Run Away. Once you’ve seen the ending, going back to watch it from the beginning with that knowledge creates a really satisfying experience.

Nesbitt described Harlan’s stories as thrilling and unpredictable, with many plotlines converging to create a surprising and dramatic conclusion.

Once Run Away introduces its surprises, the pace really picks up. Events start happening one after another, creating a non-stop, intense experience.
