For “Malcolm in the Middle” fans and the Walt Disney Co., 151 episodes weren’t enough.
The popular sitcom, which originally aired on Fox for seven seasons in the early 2000s, is coming back with four new episodes on Hulu starting April 10th. The show will reunite original cast members like Bryan Cranston, Frankie Muniz, and Jane Kaczmarek, along with some of Malcolm’s brothers.
As a big fan of the original “Malcolm in the Middle,” I’m really excited about the new limited series, “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair.” It’s set almost 20 years later, and the story brings Malcolm back into the fold – his wonderfully chaotic family needs his help to celebrate Hal and Lois’ 40th wedding anniversary. Sounds like the perfect excuse for some classic family mayhem!
Disney teased the trailer Monday.
In 2019, Disney bought a large portion of Rupert Murdoch’s entertainment company, including the rights to 20th Century Fox’s TV shows and movies. This gave Disney popular franchises like “The Simpsons” and “Avatar.” Now, Disney is revisiting the Fox library to find shows that appeal to multiple generations – millennials, baby boomers, and Gen Z – recognizing the current popularity of nostalgic, feel-good TV on streaming platforms like Disney+ and Hulu.
I’m really excited about “Malcolm in the Middle” coming back! I think it’ll bring in a lot of people who’ve been following Bryan Cranston’s career for years – even before he blew everyone away in “Breaking Bad.” And it’s cool to see Frankie Muniz still out there too; I always knew he was into racing, and it’s awesome he’s partnered with Ford!

A new study by National Research Group revealed that around 60% of all television viewers are watching content from libraries.
A recent study by NRG revealed that 40% of Gen Z turn to older TV shows for comfort and a sense of nostalgia. Interestingly, Disney found that a quarter of young people’s favorite shows originally aired before 2010.

ABC is reviving the comedy “Scrubs” on February 25th. The show, known for its funny take on hospital life at the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital, will once again feature the beloved friendship between Zach Braff and Donald Faison’s characters – a dynamic they’ve recently brought back in commercials for T-Mobile.
The show aired from October 2001 to March 2010 and was produced by 20th Television in partnership with Bill Lawrence’s Doozer Productions.
Sarah Chalke is coming back, and John C. McGinley will make a guest appearance. You’ll be able to watch the show on ABC, and it will also be available on Disney’s Hulu the next day.

Nearly all of the original actors from “Malcolm” are back for the new series. However, Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey, isn’t acting anymore, so Caleb Ellsworth-Clark has taken on the role.

In 2000, Howard Rosenberg, who used to review television for the Los Angeles Times, praised “Malcolm in the Middle” as the season’s most clever, well-written, and unique comedy.

Disney Television Studios and New Regency are behind the new version of the show. Linwood Boomer, the creator of the original, wrote and executive produced this reboot. Ken Kwapis directed all four episodes and also served as an executive producer.
Disney isn’t just bringing back old shows – they’re also working with advertisers to create retro-style commercials that will play during those classic movies on Disney+’s streaming service and on television.
