Jo Martin shared the heartbreaking news that her grand-nephew, Isiah, passed away after a fight with cancer on Christmas Day. He was only 21 years old.
Actress Amanda Mealing, 56, known for her role as neurosurgeon Max McGerry on the recently cancelled TV show Holby City, shared news of a deeply upsetting loss on Instagram this Sunday.
She shared a photo of Isaiah with a message saying, ‘My sweet Grand Nephew. He passed away on Christmas morning in 2025. Rest in peace, Isaiah. It’s absolutely devastating – he was only 21. Cancer is awful.’
Jo, known for her roles including The Fugitive Doctor in Doctor Who, later shared that her family was also deeply saddened by the loss and wished they could have him back.
Friends and fans quickly expressed their sympathy, including Doctor Who’s executive producer, Russell T Davies, who wrote, ‘I’m so sorry.’
David Ames, who played Dominic Copeland on Holby City, expressed his condolences, writing, ‘Oh Jo, I’m so sorry for your loss. Sending you lots of love.’

Amanda Mealing, the actress who played Connie Beauchamp on the shows Holby City and Casualty, shared a heartfelt message: ‘Oh, darling, I can feel how much this is hurting you, and there’s nothing anyone can do. But please know that if we could help, we absolutely would.’
As someone who’s seen a lot of life, let me tell you, all I can really do is remind you how incredibly loved you are. Please, lean on me and anyone else who offers support – vent, cry, scream if you need to! Truly believe that you deserve unconditional love and acceptance. There’s a whole community of people out here who care about you and want to help you through anything. I wish I could wave a magic wand and fix things, but sometimes all we can do is be there for each other.
Zawe Ashton also expressed her condolences, writing, ‘Oh no, this is awful Jo. I’m so incredibly sorry for your family’s loss, and sending prayers for his peaceful journey.’
This follows David Tennant, who also starred in Doctor Who, sharing his memories of starting the show and the intense pressure and attention he felt when taking on such an iconic part.
David Tennant, the 54-year-old Scottish actor, first played The Tenth Doctor on BBC television in the 2005 Christmas special.
He described feeling immense pressure and being closely watched, saying it was like being in everyone’s living room on Christmas Day. He shared this on The Whoniverse Show.
‘But also how joyous to be in the middle.’
The Doctor Who Christmas special from 2005 started a yearly tradition that continued after the show’s return.

Even though there was some pressure at first, the Harry Potter actor said he quickly felt comfortable as the Time Lord, since he’d been a fan of the show for years.
People often ask me about the process of creating my Doctor, wondering about my speech patterns and how the character developed. They’re curious if Russell and I had extensive discussions, even staying up all night, to figure out the details of the character’s personality and choices.
We didn’t hesitate at all. It felt like the natural thing to do, and there wasn’t much to discuss.
David explained that, like Russell, who is 62, he’d been a lifelong fan of Doctor Who, and that this helped him fully grasp how Russell had approached writing it.
Honestly, when the writing is that good, all you have to do is speak the lines – it just feels natural. It was never complicated or puzzling to me; it always felt straightforward.
The actor originally left Doctor Who in 2010, but made a comeback to the series in 2023, just in time for its 60th anniversary celebration.
He’s giving the interview just as his daughter, Olive, has secured a significant acting part with him in the upcoming second season of the Disney+ series, Rivals.

I’m so excited to share that a fantastic young actress, just 14 years old, is joining the cast! She’ll be playing Camilla Baddingham, who is Lord Tony Baddingham’s daughter – David’s character, of course. I can’t wait to see her bring that role to life!
Oh my gosh, you guys, I just read the BEST news! Apparently, Olive is already on set filming! Not only that, but she’s working with her on-screen dad and little Amelie Child-Villiers, who’s going to be her sister, Beatrice Baddingham! I’m seriously losing it – this is happening, it’s REALLY happening!
This season will be the first time viewers see David and his daughter acting together.
A Disney+ representative confirmed that Olive Tennant and Amelie Child-Villiers will both appear in the new season of Rivals.
‘They will be portraying Tony and Monica Baddingham’s daughters, Beatrice and Camilla.’
Olive isn’t new to acting, having already been in the critically acclaimed film Belfast, nominated for an Oscar in 2021, and the BBC comedy-drama series Avoidance.
