Ore Oduba says he‘s finally able to fully accept himself now that he’s dealt with the shame caused by his 30-year struggle with pornography.
Nearing the end of 2025, the 40-year-old TV presenter looked back on a difficult year, marked by both his divorce and the heartbreaking loss of his sister, Lola, who died by suicide.
On Monday, Ore shared on Instagram about a conversation he had with life coach Paul C. Brunson from Celebs Go Dating. He discussed revealing his pornography addiction during an episode of his podcast, We Need To Talk.
The winner of Strictly Come Dancing shared that he’s been overwhelmed with support since publicly discussing his personal struggles, and he hopes his experience will inspire others.
Ore wrote: ‘I truly believe this conversation with changed the course of my life.. for the better.
I’ll be honest, leading up to my interview, I was terrified. I worried that being so open about my past struggles – particularly my addiction – would ruin everything I’d built: my career, my relationships, everything. But the complete opposite happened! Sharing my story didn’t tear things down; it actually made them stronger. It was a huge relief, and a really powerful experience, to find that vulnerability could be a source of strength and connection.

Honestly, it was everything. Seeing other people open up, really open up, was so powerful. It felt like a spotlight on all the things we keep hidden, all the shame… but in a way that brought us together. We all realized we were fighting for the same thing – a better future for our kids. And the biggest surprise? It made me feel like my voice actually mattered. I never thought I’d be someone who could speak up, but this… this changed everything.
It was frightening to finally share my truth, but I’m incredibly grateful that I did – for my own well-being and for the sake of others. I’m done with keeping things hidden and fully embrace who I am, flaws and all. Despite experiencing a lot of loss this year, I’ve unexpectedly found more love in my life than I ever thought possible.
I’ve been reflecting on how much my relationship with my mum has improved, and it’s made me realize something really powerful. It’s like, only when we fully embrace ourselves, flaws and all, can we truly let the people we love see and accept the real us. And honestly, I hope everyone experiences that kind of connection – it’s incredibly freeing.
‘I hope these words speak to you..
Let’s hope 2026 brings a year of genuine acceptance – a time without shame or fear. A time where we can show compassion to those around us, recognizing they may be facing hidden struggles. And importantly, a time where we can support them without trying to change the unique qualities that make them who they are.
Thanks so much to Paul and the team for your support. And thank you all for the love and encouragement this year! I’m excited to start a new chapter in 2026, using everything I’ve learned and with all the amazing people in my life – including those I haven’t even met yet. I hope you’ll stick around to see what happens next… things are about to get interesting!
Ore shared his thoughts along with a segment from the podcast, which featured the host discussing his mother.
He said: ‘We will never understand each other’s lives. And you know what she does, Paul?

She may not always fully grasp what I’m trying to say, but she truly listens and makes me feel heard. Most importantly, she accepts me completely, flaws and all, and that means the world to me.
I truly appreciate every moment of life, because you never know how much time anyone has left – for ourselves or for the people we care about.
It’s important to be genuine and true to yourself. Only by accepting who you are can you truly allow others to accept you, and that’s when you can start living a fulfilling life.
It has been a difficult year for Ore as he dealt with the loss of Lola in April.
Lola, who used to work at The Guardian and is also a trained chef – she even competed on Come Dine with Me – was already going through a difficult time when a terrible event happened.
Oduba shared that Lola, a gifted comedian and singer, had written a poignant farewell letter explaining they had come to identify as non-binary after struggling with personal difficulties.
Ore and Portia’s marriage broke down last October.
The former couple, who have two young children – seven-year-old Roman and four-year-old Genie – got married in 2015. They had first met five years earlier, in 2010, while both were students at Loughborough University.
Ore and Portia have announced their separation, which happened earlier this year. They expressed their gratitude for all the support they’ve received from fans over the years.
We appreciate your understanding and respect for our privacy during this challenging time. We won’t be sharing any further details and simply ask that everyone be kind.
Lately, he’s been opening up about the private struggles that led to his life falling apart. He’s discussed his fight with addiction and the deep sadness he felt after losing his religious beliefs.
Ore was just nine years old when he first saw pornography.
Young Oduba didn’t realize that seeing those images would lead to a serious addiction to adult content, one that would continue to affect him deeply even as his television career flourished.
He shared on the podcast that it took him three decades, the loss of two loved ones, and a divorce to finally open up and talk about what he’d been going through, explaining that shame had kept him quiet for so long.
The father of two decided to share his concerns now to raise awareness about children being exposed to inappropriate content on social media.
With raw emotion, Ore explained he was risking everything to protect his own children and to warn others about the dangers young people face in a world where harmful content is easily accessible online.
He admitted to feeling mostly terrified, seeing this as a major turning point that will define the rest of his life. He feels like his future truly begins immediately after this moment.
