PlayStation Plus Completely Turned Things Around In 2025, But 2026 Is Worrisome

I’ve had PlayStation Plus since it first launched, and I’ve noticed its value has gone up and down over the years. It’s common for online gaming services to struggle with offering benefits beyond just letting you play games online, and Sony is no different.

PlayStation Plus has had a fantastic year in 2025, delivering a great selection of both popular and unique indie games. While it’s been exciting to see what each month brings, 2026 might present some challenges.

There Was Something For Everyone

PlayStation Plus is having a really successful year, giving Sony an edge over Microsoft. Beyond the usual free monthly games, the Extra and Premium tiers now offer a huge library of titles – similar to Xbox Game Pass – that Sony has quickly grown. You can play first-party hits like Ghost of Tsushima and Returnal, as well as popular games like Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Sword of the Sea, and lots more.

PlayStation Plus offered something for all types of gamers, from those who prefer big-budget titles to fans of independent games, and even those who enjoy playing with friends. The wide selection of games was a major strength, keeping players excited to check what new titles were added each month. While it took some time to become popular, the service is now thriving.

Sony has been heavily promoting PlayStation Plus recently because Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass isn’t the best deal it used to be. After a significant price increase, many Game Pass subscribers have already canceled or are planning to do so, and they’ve been searching online for older, cheaper prices and gift cards.

Fans Are Worried About PlayStation Plus In 2026

So Far, Things Aren’t Looking Great

PlayStation Plus is facing a rocky beginning to 2026. The service will stop offering PlayStation 4 games next year, which means players—particularly those without a PlayStation 5—will have fewer games to choose from.

Many fans are disappointed with the recent changes, and considering Sony’s past decisions, it’s unlikely they’ll go back to the previous system. It’s unfortunate, especially since 2025 was a particularly good year, and the PlayStation 4 games really strengthened the service.

I’m still paying for online gaming, so I’ll be watching PlayStation Plus carefully throughout 2026. If they can even come close to matching how well they did in 2025, that’s a positive sign for the future.
