Stranger Things Fans Compare Season 5 Vol. 2 To Game of Thrones’ Ending

After the cliffhanger ending of Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1, fans eagerly anticipated the final episodes. However, the latest reviews suggest that Volume 2 hasn’t fully satisfied everyone. Many viewers and critics feel that episodes five, six, and seven didn’t deliver the impact they hoped for, with some drawing comparisons to the widely criticized final season of Game of Thrones.

Stranger Things Season 5 records series worst Rotten Tomatoes score, and fans aren’t happy

Even though there was a lot of excitement for the final part of Stranger Things Season 5, many viewers and critics have expressed disappointment with how the story led up to the ending.

One fan expressed frustration that the show spent too much time on new characters like Holly and Derek, instead of focusing on the original cast. While they acknowledged the importance of Will’s coming out, they felt it was handled too quickly and didn’t feel natural.

Season 5 of Stranger Things currently has the lowest ratings of the entire series on Rotten Tomatoes. While critics still give it a respectable 84% score, audience reviews are much lower at 56%. This represents a significant 33% decrease in positive audience feedback compared to Season 4.

One fan said that while the first season was excellent and benefited from some fortunate events, the second season felt like it needlessly prolonged the story and included characters who should have met their end much earlier, particularly regarding the events of Season 5 of Stranger Things.

Another viewer shared their concerns about the script, specifically that Vecna isn’t scary anymore, the focus on Holly as the main character feels wrong, and the group’s interactions don’t feel natural. They even compared the upcoming final episodes to the much-criticized ending of Game of Thrones, suggesting Stranger Things might face similar problems.

As of today, the two-hour finale of Stranger Things hasn’t been released, and it could sway opinions about the final season. The episode will be available on Netflix and in select theaters on December 31, 2025.
