Jonathan Bailey And Ethan Slater Go Shirtless In Wicked: For Good Deleted Scene (And Holy Abs)

The recent film, Wicked: For Good, continued the story begun in Wicked, but it felt less playful than the original. A newly released deleted scene shows a fun, lighthearted moment between the main characters that didn’t make the final cut. In the scene, Jonathan Bailey and Ethan Slater, who play Fiyero and Boq, remove their shirts, much to the delight of their characters’ love interests!

Before becoming the Tin Man and Scarecrow, Boq and Fiyero playfully changed their appearances by dressing up while chopping wood during a fun outing with Elphaba, Galinda, and Nessa. Here’s a glimpse of what that looked like:

Throughout both Wicked and For Good, Fiyero’s attractiveness was often highlighted, so it felt natural to see him take his shirt off while chopping wood – it even brought to mind a famous scene with Jonathan Bailey in Bridgerton. Boq taking his shirt off was more unexpected, but he was clearly in good shape too!

In the clip, both Galinda and Nessa clearly enjoyed seeing their crushes without shirts, and it was a lighthearted moment. This is a fun contrast to a similar scene in the 2004 movie Win a Date with Tad Hamilton featuring Josh Duhamel and Topher Grace. If you’re not familiar with that movie, it’s currently available to stream on Amazon Prime.

The axe might be a hint about Boq becoming the Tin Man, especially if the scene with it was originally planned for earlier in the movie. Plus, the fact that Boq’s family name is ‘Woodsman’ could also be a clue.

Interestingly, parts of this scene appear in both Wicked and For Good. The background music is reminiscent of the instrumental version of “Dancing Through Life,” and the films feature short flashbacks to happier times with the friend group that didn’t make it into the final versions. It’s a shame this scene wasn’t included in either movie, as it would have better explained how broken the group became later on.

I always felt the first movie could have shown more of the friendship between Galinda, Elphaba, and Fiyero, especially after the “Dancing Through Life” number and before “Defying Gravity.” So, it’s nice to see this deleted scene from For Good now. It’s also good to see a happier moment between Boq and Fiyero, since the last time we saw them together they had already become the Tin Man and Scarecrow. Ethan Slater revealed Boq’s fate as the Tin Man before Wicked: For Good came out.

Starting Tuesday, December 30th, you’ll be able to stream or download Wicked: For Good! The digital release lets you rent or buy the movie almost a month before the DVD and Blu-ray versions come out on January 20th, so you can enjoy Galinda and Elphaba’s story right away.

The film is up for multiple awards at the 2026 Golden Globes, including its two original songs—those not featured in the stage version—though opinions on the songs were divided. Cynthia Erivo has been nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for the second time, and Ariana Grande is again a contender for Best Supporting Actress.
