A monster first seen in the movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters is now more likely to appear in a live-action film or series within the Monsterverse. A new TV show connected to the Godzilla and Kong films is in development, and it could include one of the many powerful creatures, known as Titans, that were originally introduced in King of the Monsters back in 2019.
Legendary’s Monsterverse now includes two TV shows as part of its official storyline: the animated Netflix series Skull Island and Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which will return for a second season in February. Plus, a spin-off series is planned, focusing on a younger version of Lee Shaw, played by Wyatt Russell.
The new series, which includes flashbacks to Lee Shaw’s work with Monarch in the 1950s and 60s, will follow Wyatt Russell’s character into the 1980s. He’ll be investigating a Soviet attempt to weaponize a terrifying new Titan discovered within Russia.
Amhuluk Was Being Monitored At A Monarch Outpost In Russia

The movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters introduced the Monsterverse and used screens to show the names and locations of many Titans – giant monsters – including 11 that weren’t actually seen in the film. One of these hidden Titans was Amhuluk, who was held at Outpost 66 in Russia’s Manpupuner Rock Formations. Ghidorah’s roar is what ultimately woke all of the Titans from their slumber.
The identity of Amhuluk was further explained in the Godzilla vs. Kong comic book, Godzilla: Dominion. The comic revealed that Amhuluk is a hostile Titan who lives in swamps and has characteristics of plants. It can even grow tree- and vine-like extensions from its body.
Following the events of King of the Monsters, Amhuluk traveled to the Amazon Rainforest and fought with Behemoth. Godzilla arrived and easily defeated Amhuluk, causing him to submit to Godzilla’s dominance and retreat.
The Monsterverse’s New Show Could Show How Amhuluk Was Discovered

It’s likely the new Titan in the upcoming spin-off is Amhuluk. The Monsterverse has shown it likes to expand on the backstory of Titans first hinted at in King of the Monsters and in related stories. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire did this successfully by bringing back Tiamat, a Titan originally featured in Dominion.
Considering this, it’s quite possible the Monsterverse could use the creature design from Dominion to create a new, dangerous enemy for Monarch to study during the 1980s.
The exact date Amhuluk was discovered is unknown, but Monarch established a base in Russia before 2019. It’s unclear whether the Russian government allowed this outpost, and the new spin-off series might explore that question.
Based on the synopsis for the show, the Soviet Union had its own designs on the Titan. It could be that the events that will play out in the show will see the Soviets realize that they have no expertise in containing Titans and therefore need Monarch to manage that role, which could provide a working explanation for Outpost 66’s existence years ahead of Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
