Henry Cavill’s Glorious Superman Photos in Christopher Reeve’s Suit Revealed

Over the past few months, director Zack Snyder has been posting pictures from his films, including his DC movies. Recently, he excited fans by sharing two photos of Henry Cavill wearing the iconic Superman suit famously worn by Christopher Reeve.

Interestingly, Henry Cavill first wore the Superman suit during auditions for the movie Man of Steel. Even though his time playing Superman ended unexpectedly, many fans still fondly remember his performance as the character.

Zack Snyder shares Henry Cavill’s Superman photos in Christopher Reeve’s suit

Zack Snyder posted two pictures on Instagram of Henry Cavill wearing the original Superman suit famously worn by Christopher Reeve. The first photo shows Cavill standing on a platform, looking off to the side, with a bright blue sky and sunlight behind him.

Sunlight created a shadow of Henry Cavill, obscuring most of his suit and leaving only the upper left side and the Superman symbol clearly visible. Zack Snyder shared the photo with the caption, “Henry Cavill. The original Superman suit. This photo. It was undeniable.”

The second photo is a closer view of the first, with mountains faintly visible in the distance. Snyder shared the photo with the caption: “Everyone at Warner Bros. agreed this was Henry Cavill as Superman – that’s when the project really got going.” He finished the post with a simple, “Merry Christmas.”

These photos were released eight years after Snyder originally shared a black-and-white image of Cavill wearing a suit inspired by Christopher Reeve’s Superman costume on Vero. He posted at the time, “First test with Henry… I knew immediately he was my Superman” (according to The Hollywood Reporter).

Director Zack Snyder shared in a 2016 interview that Henry Cavill actually wore Christopher Reeve’s original Superman suit when he auditioned for Man of Steel. The film’s costume hadn’t been made yet, and Snyder remembered the immediate impact. He said that when Cavill emerged wearing the suit, everyone on set instantly recognized him as Superman.

In a 2011 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Zack Snyder recalled a striking reaction to Henry Cavill wearing the Superman suit. Unlike other actors who seemed comical in the suit—even talented ones—Cavill immediately projected a remarkable calmness and confidence that convinced Snyder he had found the right Superman.
