Someone Asked Rupert Grint About Pulling A Tom Felton And Joining Harry Potter And The Cursed Child

It’s hard to separate Tom Felton from his iconic role as Draco Malfoy, and even he seems to embrace it! Fans were thrilled – and maybe a little surprised – when he returned as Malfoy in the stage production Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Now, everyone’s wondering if Rupert Grint will also revisit his character. He recently shared his honest thoughts on the possibility.

Tom Felton basically never left The Wizarding World after the Harry Potter films ended in 2011 (all of which are available to streaming with a HBO Max subscription). He’s maintained ties back to his infamous wizard role through his Instagram posts, a memoir, and emotionally stepping into Draco Malfoy’s shoes again for the Cursed Child play. As for how Rupert Grint felt about the idea of his former co-star returning to his magical roots, he shared his delightful answer to BBC News:

I’ve seen the play, and it’s fantastic. It works really well as a complete story on its own, and I’m hoping for the best for Tom. I think it’s going to be incredible.

It’s wonderful to see how supportive Rupert Grint is as a friend and former co-star! Like Jason Isaacs, who previously showed his support for his on-screen son, Grint is cheering on his fellow Harry Potter cast members and their new projects. It’s clear the actors who played the Malfoys share a special bond, both on and off screen.

I remember reading an interview with Rupert Grint back in 2019, and he was really complimentary about Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, calling it a brilliant play. But when asked about possibly reprising his role as Ron Weasley, he seemed hesitant, saying he wasn’t sure if he’d ever do it again. It’s great to see Tom Felton still involved with the Harry Potter universe, but I was really curious to know if Rupert felt the same way – and his honest answer was fascinating.

I’m not sure about returning to that role someday, though you never know. Right now, I’m happy to move on and explore other things. It’s funny, seeing the series now through my kids’ eyes has completely changed how I view it – it’s become something different and special to me.

I get why Rupert Grint wants to explore roles beyond Ron Weasley. After playing Harry Potter’s best friend for a decade, it’s natural he’d want to try new things. However, he’ll always be linked to the magical world, especially now that he’s watched the films with his children. He shared that his oldest daughter is already a big fan, even owning a wand and a Ron Weasley Pez dispenser – it’s incredibly sweet!

While Rupert Grint isn’t reprising his role as Ron Weasley, he’s working on some interesting new projects. He’s starring in the thriller Nightborn, which follows a couple who discover something unsettling about their baby. He’s also joining Johnny Depp in a new film adaptation of A Christmas Carol alongside a fantastic cast. It’s clear Grint is finding success and excitement in projects outside of the wizarding world.

While Rupert Grint isn’t currently appearing on stage like Tom Felton, he still cherishes his time as Ron Weasley – and his children do too! It’s clear the character remains special to his family. If you’d like to see Felton perform, you can catch him in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway until May 2026.
