Fans of the movie White Chicks might be upset to learn that it will be removed from streaming platforms before the new year. The Wayans Brothers‘ film is set to depart soon.
As a big movie fan, I was surprised to hear that this comedy is leaving the streaming service on December 31st. It’s a shame, because it popped up as a seasonal thing – remember how White Chicks was available for a while back in 2022? It’s always a bummer when movies disappear from platforms, even temporarily.
The comedy White Chicks was a huge hit in theaters when it came out in June 2004. The film, a buddy-cop story with a great supporting cast including Terry Crews, Busy Phillips, and Jamie Presley, earned about $113.1 million – nearly three times its $37 million production cost.
Despite being a box office hit with a famous cast, White Chicks wasn’t well-received by critics or most viewers. The film was nominated for five Golden Raspberry Awards in 2005 and generally disappointed fans and reviewers. While audiences gave it a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, critics were far less impressed, giving it a score of only 15%.
As a film buff, I’ve always found the reaction to White Chicks fascinating. Some people thought it was a fun, if uneven, comedy from the Wayans brothers, but it definitely got a lot of heat. A big part of the criticism stemmed from the movie’s premise – two Black FBI agents going undercover as white women – and the use of what many saw as a problematic ‘whiteface’ disguise. Beyond that, a lot of people felt the humor relied too heavily on tired jokes and, worse, perpetuated harmful stereotypes about race and gender. It really sparked a lot of debate, and honestly, it’s a movie that still gets people talking.
Marlon Wayans Has Defended White Chicks
In 2022, Marlon shared his opinion that White Chicks remains a funny movie even after twenty years, despite the criticism it received when it first came out.
When asked if ‘cancel culture’ would affect White Chicks today, the actor responded, “White chicks! They’re the biggest fans.” He believes the best comedy comes from making everyone laugh, even those who are the target of the joke, and that their film was equal-opportunity in its humor. He explained that White Chicks playfully explored themes of gender, race, and pop culture in a way that was accessible and funny for everyone, which he feels is why it remains a beloved cult classic.

Marlon seems eager to explore the possibility of making sequels to his popular films. He hinted in February on Good Morning America that he’s considering it, saying fans frequently ask about continuations of both Scary Movie and White Chicks. He suggested they could start with Scary Movie 6 and then move on to White Chicks 2.
White Chicks is currently available to stream on Netflix.
