Wayne Lineker is keeping his spirits up during his hospital stay and gave fans a cheerful update, letting them know he’s expected to be discharged on Thursday.
Last week, the 63-year-old British businessman was taken to the hospital by ambulance after experiencing a serious bout of pneumonia. This was his second severe attack in less than a month, following an initial illness just weeks prior.
He spread Christmas cheer by sharing a photo on Instagram of himself with the nurses who were caring for him in the hospital hallway.
Wayne wore a red and white striped pyjama set and completed the look with a fluffy Santa hat.
He shared a sweet Christmas photo with the message: ‘Merry Christmas to all! Sending love from me and the nurses at the Bursted ward at Bassildon Hospital. We’re enjoying Christmas music and I’ve been able to video chat with my family too!’

The actor has recovered from pneumonia and is expected to be discharged on Boxing Day, though he still needs to finish his antibiotic treatment through an IV.
Wayne shared a video from his hospital bed on Wednesday, sporting a Christmas hat, to let his fans know he’s being discharged – but he’ll have to wait until Boxing Day to go home.
I’ve fully recovered from pneumonia! After what has been a really difficult six weeks, I’m going home on Boxing Day.
I’ll be spending Christmas Day in the hospital because I still have two days of antibiotics to receive through an IV. Despite that, I’m feeling very positive!
‘Thank you to all the incredible doctors and Nurses at Basildon hospital.’
The nightclub owner revealed he recently underwent lung surgery after a life-threatening health scare and was suffering from severe pain.
Wayne had taken a turn for the worse while his son Sean was looking after him at home.
He wrote at the time: ‘PNEUMONIA UPDATE.
I was recently discharged from the hospital and sent home with antibiotics and other medicine, but unfortunately, I had to be readmitted after just four days due to a serious second illness.

I needed another trip to the hospital by ambulance while being looked after at home by my son, Sean. Luckily, he was there to help.
Wayne shared that his immune system hasn’t been as strong since he quit drinking earlier this year and began his journey to sobriety.
He explained that he still has pneumonia and doctors are trying to figure out why the antibiotics aren’t working as well as they should.
‘I’ve had countless scans and blood tests, with many results already back and more still to come.
It’s a relief to learn this doesn’t seem to be a heart problem. It’s probably related to my immune system, which has been weaker since I gave up alcohol.
Changing my lifestyle so dramatically during rehab led to several infections, and I’m still dealing with the effects almost six months later. If doctors confirm it’s still an issue, I’ll need a powerful course of antibiotics and steroids delivered through an IV.
It seems I’ll be spending Christmas in the hospital, but I’ve made peace with it. I’ll remain here until I’ve fully recovered and am able to return home.
‘Thank you all so much for the love, it truly means everything #pneumonia #beingpositive’.
